Clean Water for Haiti

I know there are a lot of people here in the US talking about the end of TPS for Haitians, and living outside of Haiti it can be really hard to understand why those of us that have called Haiti home or have Haitian friends and family are struggling so much with that decision. This documentary popped up in my Youtube feed a few days ago and I finally had a chance to sit down and watch it.

I'm not going to mince words. It was a hard watch because many of the places filmed are places we used to freely travel. They used to be FULL of people moving around and doing life. Seeing the state of things and hearing the first hand stories of the people living through this nightmare had me in tears several times. (Haiti friends - heads up here)

Please take some time to watch it. The more we educate ourselves the more we can speak to the difficult things of this world and advocate for those that might not be able to advocate for themselves.

There are a lot of memories that I carry from all of our years in Haiti. Some of my favorites are from the times I would get to go out with our staff on delivery days. Every single time I would meet families that were just buzzing because they were excited to get their filter. There would be a hive of activity as they gathered the water needed for installation, and lots of giggling and chatter as they saw the filter star flowing with water. They would tell me stories of where they got their water and why they were so excited for their filters, and they would thank me and our staff for the work we do as an organization that would mean they could be giving their family clean water.

It's easy for me to get caught up in the day to day stuff of helping to ensure Alexandre and our staff have what they need to keep going, but it's the people and stories that remind me of WHY we do what we do. The past 3-4 years have been so much more difficult for the people of Haiti than I have the words to express. Every filter that we can get into a home is a miracle in and of itself.

Our quiet farming community that was always so vibrant and teeming with life now only has a handful of people still living there as most have fled to other safer areas.
