“NAACP of Vancouver still identifies housing as a central civil-rights issue, Vice President Sha’Launda Page said.

She chairs the housing committee, which works to address barriers to safe and affordable housing, monitor local housing conditions, advocate for equitable policies, and combat discrimination in rental housing and housing assistance.”

When thousands of Black shipyards workers arrived in Vancouver during World War II, housing was among the first barriers they encountered.

With the August 4 Primary Election deadline here, mailing your ballot at the last minute may risk it not receiving the required postmark in time. If you still have your ballot, an official ballot drop box is a reliable way to make sure it is received by the deadline.

The Washington State Primary Election is coming up on Tuesday, August 4.

If you're registered to vote, remember that completed ballots must be returned by 8:00 PM on August 4 to be counted. Be sure to sign your ballot envelope and return your ballot early by mail or at an official ballot drop box.

NAACP Vancouver Branch President Mark Frazier recently spoke at the Good Trouble rally, representing our branch and reaffirming our commitment to protecting civil rights, defending voting rights, and standing with Black and Brown communities.

Inspired by the legacy of Congressman John Lewis, this gathering reminded us that progress has always required people who are willing to speak up, show up, and make what Lewis called “good trouble, necessary trouble.”
