Ourganda is building something that did not exist for children living with sickle cell disease in rural Bundibugyo: consistent testing and treatment close to home.

What began as a small pilot clinic has continued to grow, and our teams have already seen a reduction in hospitalizations and blood transfusions for our sickle cell patients.

We started with a CBC machine, which allows our medical team to monitor patients’ blood counts. In May, we added a chemistry analyzer to perform important liver and kidney function testing. And this month, we added a centrifuge, an important piece of equipment needed for the clinic’s chemistry testing.

What may look like a few machines on a table represents something much bigger: a rural clinic steadily developing the tools and services needed to provide more complete sickle cell care to the families we serve.

The clinic is growing. The tools are growing. And so is what is possible for the children we serve.

This is progress you can see. And we’re still building. 💙

🥁 A new season is beginning for Ourganda!

This month, three more communities—Humya, Bundimwali, and Kisiri-Nyahuka—joined the Ourganda family, expanding our work in Bundibugyo to 16 villages and 23,500 people.

Across the communities we already serve, this work touches everyday life—helping women and girls live more safely, supporting mothers and children with healthcare, equipping young people with skills for the future, and helping families build financial stability through village credit unions.

Now, thousands more people will have the opportunity to be part of that same community-led approach.

The September newsletter shares more about this milestone, the three new villages, and the bigger vision ahead.

Every gift helps Ourganda continue expanding sustainable solutions that strengthen communities for the long term.

We are beyond excited to welcome our 16th adopted village: Kisiri-Nyahuka!

With 3,000 villagers and 1,500 children, Kisiri-Nyahuka is our largest expansion yet! Real, sustainable change happens when local communities choose transformation from the inside out.

Starting this November, local leaders in Kisiri-Nyahuka will form trained Mankind and Soul Sisters volunteer teams, standing up to protect women, mentor young men, and safeguard children from abuse before it ever begins.

We are thrilled to announce that Bundimwali is officially joining the Ourganda family as our 15th adopted village!

Home to 1,500 people and 800 children, Bundimwali is about to experience complete, village-wide transformation. No more band-aids or waiting for medical emergencies. Starting this November, every family in Bundimwali will have access to:
🩺 Mobile health clinics right in their village
🛡️ Dedicated domestic violence prevention & child safety teams
💰 Micro-banks and financial literacy classes to build thriving local businesses

That’s 2,000 new lives and 1,000 precious children who are stepping into a bright, secure future. In places like Humya, life without care can be fragile. But together, we aren’t just offering temporary aid or quick fixes. We’re answering a vital question: Where will these 1,000 kids be ten years from now?

Real, lasting community transformation happens when dedicated local professionals step up to serve their own villages. We are so excited to introduce 4 incredible new team members who have officially joined our team on the ground in Bundibugyo District!

Meet the New Team Members:
🩺 Godwin Baluku: Medical Clinical Officer | Bringing clinical expertise to our mobile medical clinics! Godwin is 30, married with 1 child, and loves playing sports and diving into medical books.
🩺 Elius Byamukama: Medical Clinical Officer | Expanding healthcare access across our partner villages! Elius is 38, married with 4 kids (including twins!), and enjoys news, football, and volleyball.
🎒 Benard Muhereza: Children’s Team Associate | Protecting and mentoring the next generation! Benard is 33, married with 4 children, and loves singing worship songs and watching educational movies.
🛠️ Perfect Akatuhurira: Community Center Maintenance | Keeping our Community Center running smoothly! Perfect is 25, a licensed driver, and a huge football fan.

Some journeys take time, but every single step is worth celebrating. 💙

In early 2024, our Associate Ministry Coordinator, Frank, met a sweet 4-year-old girl named Praise who was facing severe mobility limitations and health challenges from cerebral palsy.

Driven by a desire to see children like Praise thrive, Ourganda helped approximately 10 to 12 children travel to the Kyaninga Child Development Center for weeks of specialized physiotherapy. When they returned home, our team walked alongside their families, helping them continue their daily exercises.

Today, Praise is 7 years old, and she is walking independently and attending her local school! 🎒

Praise’s progress is a testament to her incredible determination, her family’s devotion, and the power of compassionate, long-term care. Meaningful change doesn't happen overnight, but with the right support, hope becomes reality one step at a time.

In many parts of the world, when young people make mistakes, systems of justice are already in place. But in the remote villages of Bundibugyo District, local leaders faced a difficult dilemma.

Under Ugandan law, minors under 18 cannot be placed in adult prisons. Because the nearest juvenile facility was almost two hours away, local police were left with virtually no way to enforce consequences when young boys caused severe harm or disruption in the villages. Without accountability, cycles of crime and destruction only grew.

When local government officials and police leaders asked Ourganda to help solve this problem, we said YES.

Together with local law enforcement, we built the district’s very first Youth Detention Center—attached directly to the local police station.

How it works:

Ourganda’s Role: We built the facility and established a grace-based accountability program through our local Mankind Clubs. When a young man causes trouble, he is given a choice: sign a peace pledge with a local mentor, or face the police.

The Police’s Role: Local law enforcement and government officers will fully own, operate, and maintain the center to ensure safety and law across the entire district.

No one wants to see a child behind a locked door. But in a culture rebuilding its safety from the ground up, having a firm, local boundary creates the peace that every family, mother, and child deserves. 🕊️

A building is finished, but the work of mentoring and restoring young lives is just beginning.
