🐧 Penguin Nation Spotlight: Jenny Nguyen

Before The Sports Bra became a nationally known women's sports bar, before the lines stretched down the block, Jenny Nguyen was a basketball player at Clark College.

A career-ending injury changed her plan. But Clark didn't let her disappear from the team just because her role had changed. She still practiced, still showed up, still belonged. "Clark gave her room to reinvent what was possible," as her story puts it, and that lesson became the foundation for everything she built next.

Years later, Jenny opened The Sports Bra in Portland, the country's first sports bar dedicated exclusively to women's sports. What started as a Kickstarter campaign has grown into a national phenomenon, with new locations expanding to Boston, Indianapolis, Las Vegas, St. Louis, and Portland, Maine.

For Jenny, Clark College was more than a stepping stone. It was, in her words, "a soft landing pad for big life changes... an accessible, affordable place where you can explore, fail, and discover yourself."

💙 Did you know? In 2025-2026, Clark College Foundation awarded over $2.2 million in scholarships to more than 880 students.

For Business Administration student Laura Ospino Joya, that support meant more than tuition. "Receiving a scholarship means so much more than financial assistance," she shared. "It represents encouragement, confidence, and the belief that my goals are worth pursuing."

Laura's journey at Clark has required learning a new language, making financial sacrifices, and holding tightly to her dreams for the future. "Thanks to the generosity of donors, I can continue my education with greater confidence and determination as I work toward a brighter future."

This is what scholarships make possible. 🐧

Help us continue funding scholarships for students like Laura. 💙

💙 At Clark College, students who once believed higher education wasn't an option are building stronger futures for themselves and our community. But many still need support to get there.

In 2025-2026, Clark College Foundation awarded over $2.2 million in scholarships to Clark students, thanks to the Penguin Nation. 880 students received that financial support.

Every scholarship is more than financial assistance. It gives a student the confidence to stay enrolled, focus on their studies, and keep moving toward graduation, transfer, or career success. It tells them that an entire community believes in them.

Together, we can make sure even more Clark students have that opportunity this year. 🐧

Will you join us in supporting the next class of Penguins? 💙
