This month's company spotlight brings you a participant from our northernmost member state, Alaska! Kahiltna Birchworks (Alaska Birch Syrup & Wild Harvest Products) was born from innovation in the Alaskan wilderness in 1990. That spring, they tapped their first 200 birch trees and produced their first batch of birch syrup. Over the years they expanded their operation, eventually becoming the world’s largest birch syrup producer, tapping up to 16,000 trees annually. Their commitment to sustainability and quality laid the foundation for what Kahiltna Birchworks is today.

WUSATA has been instrumental in helping them bring their Alaska-made products to the global stage through trade missions and curated industry events. Today, Kahiltna Birchworks continues to celebrate Alaska’s natural abundance, supplying chefs, breweries, Michelin-starred restaurants, and culinary enthusiasts with premium birch syrup and wild-harvested specialties. With deep respect for the history of the company and the people who first called this land home, they are committed to innovation while staying true to the spirit of Kahiltna Birchworks.

Episode 2 of the Trade Roots podcast is here, and it's a spicy one! 🌶️

This month's theme on the podcast is sauces, and we had the pleasure of interviewing Stacy Moritz, the owner of Secret Aardvark Trading Company, and Erick Garman, a trade development manager from the Oregon Department of Agriculture. Stacy shared the history of Secret Aardvark and talked about the export challenges and opportunities she's seeing from the perspective of a sauce brand. Erick, who has helped several sauce companies grow their export sales, discussed key steps to take to ensure success as a company expands their business to new markets.

If you're looking for the secret sauce on growing a small business, getting export-ready, and selecting unique flavors to make your products pop, give this episode a listen here (or on your favorite podcast platform): https://youtu.be/X4ztkDHtniw?si=-0pPBmkrR0zmv03N

Seoul Food & Hotel is Korea’s premier B2B food and beverage exhibition, renowned for its professionalism, high quality, and global reach. Now the fourth-largest food industry event in Asia, it attracts top international buyers and industry leaders.

South Korea is one of the U.S' largest export markets and a great option for WUSATA companies looking to break into Asian markets! We can't wait to see the connections our exhibiting companies make at the show this year.
