It’s a beautiful day !!! Today the much anticipated work of resurfacing the roof began! So excited to see this much needed to repair work done to ensure this building stands for many years to come !
Also with several groups taking the week off from their dance practice for spring break this week, we decided to deconstruct and repair the floor in Dance Studio A. Our DIY dance floor has lasted over two years now and it was time to do some major repairs. The roof work will take a few weeks and the dance floor will be ready by the time everyone returns next Monday.
PROGRESS !!! Onward !!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

SOUND ON 🤓
On March 9th 2026, Mayor Anne McEnerny-Ogle gave her annual State of the City address, and we were honored to host this event here at the arts hub project building.

We want to share this 2 min snippet from her speech, where she spoke about the importance of access to arts and culture for Vancouver, the decades long need for affordable studio and workshop spaces, the work theARTScentered is doing with & for the community, and this building... as she called it...
Vancouvers FIRST Arts & Cultural Center !!!! 💯
Watch for the special shout out from Mayor Anne to Christine at the end ❤️

Happy Birthday Miss Eva Santee ❤️
Today is the 130th birthday of the incredible woman who was the force and foresight behind the creation of this beautiful building, that we now have the great honor to be working in!! Community was at the center of Eva's work and we're thrilled to continue that work by creating spaces for arts and culture in Vancouver, WA.

Eva was born in 1896 in Altamont, Kansas.
Eva’s academic path began at Washington State Normal School (now Western Washington University) and continued at the University of California, where she completed a master’s degree in librarianship.
After teaching in California, she came to Clark County and accepted a position at the Camas Library in 1932.
At the time, she was the county’s only librarian with a graduate degree, earning a monthly salary of $75. Over the next several years, she established organizational systems for the library and played a key role in rallying community support for a new building.

In 1940, Santee moved to the Carnegie Library in downtown Vancouver, where she oversaw significant expansion during the World War II years. She also worked to broaden access to library services across the county. While mobile libraries had been in use elsewhere for decades, Clark County had no such program. To address this gap, Santee converted a surplus Army truck into a traveling library in the early 1940s, bringing books to underserved and rural communities—a service model that remains in place today.
