✨Recovery is possible.✨
My name is Megan Rugh, and this is my story.💟
My addiction started with constant prescriptions from doctors.
Eventually, I began to realize that I had a problem, so I went to rehab.
After hours of evaluation, I finally saw a doctor who told me that my p*e wasn’t “dirty enough.” I left feeling completely crushed.
A couple of weeks later, I made friends with the wrong people. They gave me pills and told me they were clean. They weren’t.
Instead of stopping, I wanted the friendship so badly that I kept using more and more.
Things continued to get worse, and before I knew it, my life had gone from fun to completely falling apart.
In 2023, I was arrested and eventually ended up in the hospital on life support. I truly thought that was my rock bottom. I had to relearn how to eat and walk again.
I was there for so long that it became the longest period of sobriety I had ever experienced.
When I got out, I didn’t seek help because I thought I was okay. But without support, I went right back to using. Things became worse than they had ever been.
In 2025, I finally reached my breaking point. I searched for every rehab I could find on Google and called one after another. Most told me there was a two-week wait, which wasn’t going to work for me.
Then NorthStar finally took me in.
I trusted them to lead me and protect me, and they changed my life.
After that, I met Restored & Revived and began volunteering. I got involved in a meeting and eventually began helping run a panel focused on recovery.
Today, I’m also working to bring those panels into high schools, because sharing the message of recovery with young people is incredibly important to me.
I am finally able to put my energy into my hopes and dreams because of sobriety.
Today, I am one year and seven months sober, and I have never felt more proud. It isn’t always easy, but it is absolutely worth it.
Recovery gave me my life back.
