"...the more transparent the University is about s*xual violence in general, the more people feel like they can share their own experiences. She said SASA members were vocal about adding mandatory s*xual assault prevention education for incoming students two years ago, which was key to winning administrators' support."

We hope this trend continues to occur on many more campuses. Read the entire process of Title IX changes at The George Washington University from The GW Hatchet article here: http://www.gwhatchet.com/2016/10/10/no-public-reports-from-s*xual-assault-prevention-response-committee/

Two years after it was formed, a committee designed to find new avenues of addressing s*xual violence has not made any of its reports public.

"New research reveals how a 4-month transcendental meditation program led to a significant reduction in stress and trauma symptoms among male inmates, suggesting the technique may be an effective treatment for prisoners, veterans, and other individuals at high risk of post-traumatic stress."

We hope that Portland, Oregon community members will want to utilize our healing space as a place to meditate as well.

"The trauma of exposure to these videos sits on top of layers of trauma that go all the way back to slavery. It is all one and the same. It starts with the kidnapping of my ancestors from Africa and “slave patrols” – bands of white men hired to police communities for slaves who tried to escape, and a forerunner to modern American law enforcement (Turner et al., 2006)."

There are many triggers for past traumas, this is one aspect to keep in mind when discussing (even through social media) some of what is going on in the world around us.

"The Title IX Fund was established by the Kenyon College Alumni for Title IX, an alumni organization united on a Facebook group boasting nearly 1,300 members, created by Bloom. The fund’s mission, according to its official website, is to “create a community that is sensitive to every student’s right to consensual s*x and the pain that ensues when that right isn’t protected.”

The fund has raised $1,680 from 28 different donors since it launched in June, right before the end of Kenyon’s fiscal year."

An excellent way to incorporate new ways of funding and engaging with Alumni to allow for future and new students alike to benefit from their specific donations. We are looking into these models to see if that would work for The Well next year.

A powerful story about how theatre and a supportive group of peers can make a difference in your future when dealing with trauma from the past. We can only hope The Well will enable and empower members of Portland, Oregon & Concordia University Portland equally.

"When Ros Horin started on the production that was to become The Baulkham Hills African Ladies Troupe, there were times when she wondered where it was going. She was asking the women taking part in the work to draw on unacknowledged, painful details of their lives, and she was mindful of her responsibilities to them."

"The Green Road is a place to heal the body, strengthen the mind and reinvigorate the spirit,” said Sen. Barbara A. Mikulski (D-Md.), who spoke at the Green Road’s dedication ceremony this morning. “By connecting with nature, injured service members can reconnect to themselves, their families and the country they fought for.”
