We had 9 NWABA athletes and their guides take on the 2026 Columbia River Triathlon, Duathlon, and Aquabike races. Since January, our athletes have been swimming, biking, and running in preparation—and by around 11 a.m., all 9 had crossed the finish line! 🎉

A few standout moments from the day:
🥇 New NWABA athlete Stefan took 1st place in the Men’s Triathlon Para Division with a time of 1:19:25!
👏 Hank, our Athlete of the Year, took an incredible 10 minutes off his time from last year, finishing in 1:49:14!
💪 Sheila, who celebrated her 73rd birthday last week, crossed the finish line in an amazing 2:11:32!

A huge thank you to our partners at WHY Racing Events and to the volunteer guides who support our athletes on race day and throughout the year. Your time, energy, and commitment help make opportunities like this possible.

Sorry... we were kinda busy having the best week of the summer at Camp Spark. ☀️

Camp Spark 🤝 Goalball. Safe to say this one earned a spot as a camp favorite. Goalball challenges athletes to rely on hearing, communication, and teamwork as they track a ball with bells inside. It didn't take long for the cheers to fill the gym.

For our August we are celebrating our Camp Spark Counselors & Specialists! 💙 Behind every unforgettable Camp Spark memory is a team of incredible counselors and specialists who make it all possible. From morning until lights out, our counselors create a welcoming environment where campers feel supported, included, and encouraged to try new things. Alongside them, our Camp Specialists adapt sports, recreation, fitness, and other activities so every camper who is blind or visually impaired can participate with confidence.

Together, they become mentors, teammates, role models, and some of camp's biggest cheerleaders—helping campers build independence, discover new abilities, and create lifelong memories.

While this post features just a few of the amazing faces behind Camp Spark, it's a celebration of every counselor and specialist whose dedication made this week so special. Thank you for believing in our athletes and helping create a place where confidence grows, friendships flourish, and every camper feels like they belong.

We're swimming on business. 🏊 Blindness doesn't stop someone from enjoying the water, competing, or becoming a swimmer. With the right training, adaptations, and confidence, the possibilities are endless!

Camp Spark campers in action! 📸 The best part of camp isn't that everyone tries the same thing—it's that everyone gets the chance to find their thing. With more than 10 different sports and recreational activities offered throughout the week, athletes have the opportunity to discover new interests, challenge themselves, and find the activities they love most.
