A little hike never hurt anyone! We hit the trails at Tualatin Hills Nature Park and got to enjoy some beautiful weather, fresh air, and even better company. Safe to say the sunshine showed up for us. ☀️

Sometimes it’s the little things athletes say that stay with us the longest.

Meet our June feature, Katie V. ⭐️ As NWABA’s Sports Outreach Program Specialist for the Portland and Vancouver area, Katie helps connect athletes and volunteers through sports, movement, and community. From recruiting volunteers and leading virtual workouts to building partnerships and supporting programs behind the scenes, she brings energy and care into every part of her role.

“What inspired me to get involved with NWABA? A deep love for sports, activity, and sharing good times with great people!” One of Katie’s favorite parts about NWABA is seeing athletes and volunteers connect at events and discovering what they bond over first, whether it’s food, where they’re from, or shared hobbies. She shared that one of her most meaningful memories was a Wednesday night ski trip filled with laughter, learning, and athletes celebrating each other’s wins all the way down the mountain.

Fun fact: While you’ll usually see Katie in sports program attire, she actually collects dresses from the 1990s and early 2000s fashion era!

Every moment at NWABA starts with opportunity. And because of YOU, that opportunity is made possible. Help us create more moments like these by supporting NWABA’s Spring Campaign: https://nwaba.org/support/donate/

Alt text: Video features clips of NWABA athletes and volunteers participating in adaptive sports and activities including tandem biking, rock climbing, and community events. On-screen text reads: “One person is riding a tandem bike for the first time. A new athlete is showing up nervous… and leaving with a community. Someone is crossing a finish line they never thought possible. Someone is trying a sport they never imagined they could do. A volunteer is becoming a lifelong friend. Barriers are being crossed every single day. Confidence grows here. Independence grows here. Community grows here. This is more than sports. This is NWABA.

Some sounds from NWABA’s birding adventure! Guided by Columbia Land Trust, we spent the evening learning bird calls, exploring the land, and listening to migrating Sandhill Cranes echo across the park—so loud it felt like Jurassic Park! Would you go birding with NWABA?
