That’s what it takes to gift an hour of access to showers, laundry and safe respite in our day center for our fellow homeless community members. How many hours can you gift? https://friendsofthecarpenter.org/pages/donate

Hello friends! We will be closed Monday, July 29th thru Friday, July 3rd in honor of Independence Day and to give our staff who pour so much into the folks who come through our doors a much needed mid-year break so they can come back recharged for a fantastic second half! We hope you have a great time with family and friends…and most importantly be safe and be kind! 😁 Grace and Peace

On this day we join in agreement with the words from the Archdiocese of Washington in honor of Juneteenth.

This holiday commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and invites us to reflect deeply on the dignity of every human person, created in the image of God. As we observe this important moment in history, we reflect on the moral failure of slavery and the enduring strength, faith, and contributions of African Americans in our Church and society.

All are encouraged to participate in meaningful observance of this significant day in American history which serves as a powerful reminder of our continuous journey toward justice, equality, and the precious gift of freedom. Let us come together in prayer, remembrance, and action—committed to the Gospel call of justice and reconciliation.

This holiday commemorates how the enslaved Black Americans in Galveston, Texas, were informed of their freedom on June 19, 1865, more than two months after the end of the Civil War and more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation.

Juneteenth is more than a historical milestone; it is a sacred opportunity to affirm our shared humanity, celebrate the rich heritage of African Americans and continue the journey toward true freedom and unity in Christ.

We love it when we hear these words after someone takes their first shower in a while because we know we are playing a small part in honoring the Imago Dei of our neighbors. Imago Dei is Latin for Image of God. This is where our compassion is rooted at Friends of the Carpenter. As image bearers of God we believe that everyone is afforded the right to human dignity. In our corner of the world we practice that by providing free showers, laundry and a safe space to stay during the day for our neighbors that are without shelter. Want to help more of our friends feel human again? Sponsor a day of Dignity Services for one person for $17.22 If you’re really feeling chipper you can sponsor a month for one person for $344.40 😁 Link in bio
