Culture, identity and community connection can be powerful protective factors for young people.

Effective prevention listens to Indigenous communities, respects cultural knowledge and supports solutions led by the people they are intended to serve.

This Indigenous Peoplesโ€™ Day, we recognize the strength of culturally grounded prevention. ๐ŸŒฟ

Stress does not always sound like โ€œI need help.โ€ It may look like anger, withdrawal, changes in sleep or losing interest in things a young person usually enjoys.

Notice the changes. Check in without judgment and help youth find healthy support early. ๐Ÿ’ฌ

Students from the Prevention Club at Cle Elum-Roslyn High School shared their experiences engaging youth in drug and alcohol prevention, while Wenatchee High Schoolโ€™s Mariachi Huenachi brought music to the event. ๐ŸŽถ Participants could also attend an optional sound bath led by Alpine Hot Yoga Studio. ๐Ÿชท

A trusted adult can be a powerful protective factor in a young personโ€™s life.

Make time to listen, notice changes in behavior and help youth develop healthy ways to cope with stress. These everyday actions support their well-being and help prevent substance use. ๐ŸŒฑ

๐ŸŒฒ Small towns, big impact!

The 2026 Rural Prevention Conference is underway in Wenatchee, bringing students, community members and prevention professionals from across rural Washington together to learn, connect and share ideas for supporting youth.

Yesterday, Wenatchee High Schoolโ€™s Mariachi Huenachi brought music and energy to the conference. ๐ŸŽถ Today, students from the Cle Elum-Roslyn High School Prevention Club are sharing their perspectives on youth engagement in prevention.

โ€œBeing in Prevention Club isn't just about being in a club. For me, it's about speaking out about what you believe in and making a difference,โ€ said Aiden Kaiser, a 10th-grade student at Cle Elum-Roslyn High School.

Throughout the conference, attendees are exchanging prevention strategies and ideas they can bring back to their own communities. ๐Ÿ’š

Families can be an important source of strength throughout recovery. ๐Ÿ’œ

Listening without judgment, offering encouragement and helping someone connect with support can make a meaningful difference. During National Recovery Month, we recognize the families who walk alongside their loved ones with compassion and hope.

Recovery is possible, and support matters.
