Villages Clark County

Villages Clark County We are Neighbors Helping Neighbors Stay Neighbors! Villages Clark County is the newest village in development. Our goal is to begin providing services in 2018.

Over the past three years, Villages NW has worked tirelessly to organize neighborhood residents into planning groups and now has SIX grassroots Villages in development across the Portland metro-area—three in Multnomah County, two in Washington County and one in Clackamas County—and we’re not done yet! It includes all of Clark County, Washington: Vancouver, Camas, Washougal, Battle Ground, and othe

rs. In order to do that, we need volunteers and members of the community to partner with us. We are hopeful that many members of Clark County will join us in making this culture-changing approach to aging a reality. Villages Clark County is a 501(c) nonprofit organization under Villages NW.

MEET OUR VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH JOHN TREOSTI

John has been a volunteer with Villages Clark County for over five years. He
attended a Villages 101 event and thought being a part of helping Seniors in
Clark County would be something he would enjoy.

John worked for the IRS for over 30 years. Since he has retired he enjoys
spending his time Golfing, Traveling and helping the community of Clark
County by volunteering with AARP, American Legion, Golf Tournaments and
Villages Clark County.

What John likes the most about being a volunteer for Villages Clark County is
getting to meet a lot of nice people and helping Seniors be able to stay in their homes for as long as possible. One of his favorite experiences was with a wonderful couple that were Villages Clark County members. The Husband always kept a beautiful garden. As he got older it was challenging for him and his wife to maintain so John would go help them with the garden. He did that for a couple years, even after the husband passed, he would help his wife take care of the garden until she moved from her home.

John says being a volunteer for villages is a really fun way to give back to the community and gives you an opportunity to take pride in your work helping Seniors in your local area.

Villages Clark County MEMBER SPOTLIGHT - Meet Frankie Shetterly

Frankie is a wonderful woman who was one of the first members with Villages Clark County. Frankie grew up in the Midwest and came to the Pacific Northwest when she married her husband. She has now been here over 50 years. When her husband passed away unexpectedly, she was having a difficult time. She had seen a segment on TV talking about the original Villages in Beacon Hill (Boston) and how the organization started. Then she was talking to her friend on the east coast who was a
volunteer for the Villages group in her town, and she recommended Frankie try to find a Village here. That's exactly what she did. She says “it was life changing” and all the wonderful volunteers made her life better when she was walking through such a difficult time. She loves meeting all the volunteers. After all these years they are like friends she looks forward to
seeing.

Frankie spent much of her life volunteering for many organizations herself and said she has never seen so many amazing volunteers in one organization. They are outstanding people. It's fun for her to get to know them. Frankie is in her 90’s and says without groups like Villages she would not be able to stay in her home. Being a member makes life easier at a difficult time in our life.
