CATT Northwest

CATT Northwest It’s New Tech Day! Serving the Northwest, Southwest, and Northeast regions of the U.S.

The Northwest Center for Assistive Technology Training (CATT) Program is a collaboration between the American Printing House for the Blind (APH), the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind (AIDB) and the Washington State School for the Blind (WSSB). Our mission is to provide assistive technology training to teachers of blind/low vision children, utilizing a "train the trainer" model, while also prov

iding support/training for other professionals working with blind or low vision children as well as parents/caregivers of a child who is blind or has low vision, including those with additional disabilities. Assistive technology options are provided through APH and training is provided through WSSB employed trainers serving a ten-state/territory region: Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Alaska, Hawaii, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands and American Samoa.

A special highlight this past weekend for the 2026 CTEBVI conference held in California, Los Angeles - “Strategies for Success” ♟️✨

Our team showcased great effort in presenting vital subjects in the goal of supporting blind and low vision students in their education and transition needs. The CTEBVI conference serves not only the students’ needs but also supports parents, educators, and transcribers with fun community engagement 🧠🏆

We were a small but mighty team at the conference, as we missed one of our AT trainers Leslie Edmonds - however, her name was mentioned so many times we lost count, considering how much support she’s provided throughout the conference even in her absence. Regardless of who shows up, CATT Northwest is always ready to help you in learning how effective and life changing assistive tech can be! 📱

And that’s a wrap! What a fantastic - fun, fulfilling, and filled with precious moments connecting with longtime and new friends.
Description: this reel showcases a banner from APH that says “Welcome everyone” and quickly pans across a carpeted floor in a ballroom to the CATT-NW booth. Here, our booth staff Ave waves and smiles brightly with a flower tucked behind her ear. A fetching dark green tablecloth with the CATT-NW logo provides a nice background for a selection of AT from APH.

CATT Northwest team in action in real time! 🎬💃 Follow us on our journey as we start off with “pregaming” on workshops at the CTEBVI 2026 Conference as it officially starts tomorrow 🫡

Today we are presenting ‘Docs and Dots: Documents, Braille, Displays, and Screen readers, Oh my!’ Our workshop essentially aims to utilize braille displays from APH in supporting the needs of the students’ educational process in learning braille in a digitized form. To give our attendees an awe-inspiring experience, our team distributes braille displays such as the Chameleon or the Mantis for educators to dive in how beneficial assistive tech can be, especially as it provides infinite opportunities for our students 📚🎓

Presenting alongside our CATT-NW team is American Printing House for the Blind Outreach Specialist Jenny Wheeler, who also strongly advocates for our students academic success through the use of assistive technology 🤩
