CATT Northwest It’s New Tech Day! Serving the Northwest, Southwest, and Northeast regions of the U.S.

The Northwest Center for Assistive Technology Training (CATT) Program is a collaboration between the American Printing House for the Blind (APH), the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind (AIDB) and the Washington State School for the Blind (WSSB). Our mission is to provide assistive technology training to teachers of blind/low vision children, utilizing a "train the trainer" model, while also providing support/training for other professionals working with blind or low vision children as well as parents/caregivers of a child who is blind or has low vision, including those with additional disabilities. Assistive technology options are provided through APH and training is provided through WSSB employed trainers serving a ten-state/territory region: Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Alaska, Hawaii, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands and American Samoa.

​Simply handing a tactile graphic to a student who is blind or low-vision doesn’t mean it’s automatically accessible. Here’s a quick 2-minute snippet breaking down why explicit instruction and lesson planning are key to building spatial literacy.

From the scenic roads of Hawaii to an energetic conference floor, our recent time in Hawaii was one for the books. Highlights included dynamic presentations from our team, engaged attendees, and lots of smiles all around. While we're back home and settled, the island energy and community connections stay with us.

Ready for training #3 in Hawai’i! We were invited to work with the incredible VI and DHH staff from the Dept. of Ed. What a beautiful setting to learn about how to conduct Needs Assessments for AT, write IEP goals for AT, and identify appropriate accommodations for AT and digital workflows! 😎🌴
