🎭IT'S OPENING NIGHT! 🎭

On behalf of Starbird Theatre we'd like to say "Break a leg to the cast and crew of God of Carnage!" We are very proud of everyone involved in this show.

A quote from our director Jay Hash:

"In God of Carnage, we're exploring what was intended to be a courteous, diplomatic, and concillatory meeting about two children getting into a schoolyard fight...the result of which devolves into mudslinging, backbiting, and unhinged diatribes. Our hope is that we can appropriately recreate such "childish behavior at a meeting regarding childish behavior" with such aplomb, you'll think it's the United States Government.

Two sets of parents, facing their own child raising decisions being judged in real time by one another (while also desperately trying to maintain their well–crafted façades) is the name of the game here, which reminds all of us that no matter how well–thought–out the persona you decide to present is, there'll always be someone willing to take you down a peg and humble you. It's how we react in those situations which is important, and where most of the humor comes from in this piece.

We hope you enjoy our version of Yasmina Reza's dark comedy!"

Meet the Director for our production of "God of Carnage".

Jay Hash has been participating in theatre for over three decades, and "God of Carnage" is his ninth directed production, as well as his directorial debut with Starbird Theatre. His past Portland directorial efforts include "Fuddy Meers", "Jitters", "The Birth of Theatre", and the TDF Short Play Fest 2026. When not directing, he can be found acting in various character roles on Portland stages— past acting credits include "The 39 Steps", "The Mystery of Irma Vep", "Private Eyes", "No S*x Please We’re British", "The Cripple of Inishmaan", and "We Have 10 Minutes Until the End of the World". Very happy to be directing again, he'd like to give many thanks to the amazing cast for their exceptional talent and perseverance, and to the love of his life, Amanda, for continuing to be an the best stage manager and assistant director one could ask for. You can catch Jay's next directorial endeavor with New Century Players in late 2026/2027.
