It’s back to school week! 📖🍎✏️
We are lucky enough to have TWO docents at Providence Academy that attended the school in the 1960s, Kathy and Carolyn. Here are some memories about their time as students:
🏥 Kathy remembers all the fun dances, activities, and clubs like the Candy Stripers who volunteered at St. Joseph’s Hospital
👧 When freshmen arrived, senior students were paired with them as Big Sisters. They even had an assembly to mark the occasion
🎵 Kathy remembers a robust music program and recalls singing at the local nursing home
💖 For Carolyn, it was more than school - It was like a family
🧵 Carolyn’s favorite class was Home Economics, learning valuable hands-on skills
💵 As a young girl, Carolyn escorted one of the sisters to the bank, because they were not allowed to be downtown alone
😎 They both remember attending the Trapadero Club, aka “The Trap”, which provided a pool for gym class and also acted as a teen hangout center.
These are just a few of the memories that make Providence Academy such a special place – dances, graduations, reunions. All memories that we hold close to our hearts.
The Academy was built to serve the community, and it continues to do so today. But this building can’t survive without ongoing maintenance and preservation.
