At our events, kids get their hands dirty, their minds working, and their imaginations running wild 🎨 This is what we call free-choice play.

With free play, children lead, explore, and create at their own pace. No wrong answers. Just pure discovery.

Meet Mary, our resdient toy (and dog) expert 🐾

After 14 years owning Kazoodles toy store, Mary knows better than most just how transformative play really is. When Columbia Play Project was just getting started, she jumped on board, and we're so glad she did.

As a kid she was melting crayons, building shoebox worlds, and pretending to be queen. Honestly, not much has changed - these days her messy play just happens in the kitchen.

When she's not with Columbia Play Project you'll find her traveling, soaking up local theater, or spending time with her grandchildren (and those very photogenic dogs 🐶)

Mary brings so much heart to this team. We're lucky to have her!

Friendships start here 💛

There's something that happens when kids play together that you just can't plan. A shared discovery. Giggles over something silly. Two strangers becoming teammates over a pile of blocks or a craft they're both figuring out. And just like that, a friendship begins.

Play is so much more than fun. It's where children learn to communicate, to collaborate, to include, to be included. It's where they figure out how to show up for each other, skills that stay with them long after the event is over.

These moments? They're the whole point. Every event is a chance for a child to find their people and feel like they belong somewhere 🌈

We’re feeling deeply grateful 💛

Columbia Play Project was awarded a $2,500 grant from the Parks Foundation of Clark County.

This support is meaningful not only because it helps us deliver on our mission, but because it reflects a shared belief in the importance of third spaces — the places beyond home, work, and school where community happens.

In the Pacific Northwest, our parks are essential third spaces. But so are indoor places where families can gather during long rainy seasons, where children can play freely, where caregivers can exhale, and where people can feel connected to one another.

Third spaces support wellness, healing, belonging, and joy. They create opportunities for play, curiosity, and human connection — things that are not extras, but part of what helps communities thrive.

Thank you, Parks Foundation of Clark County, for believing in the power of these spaces and in Columbia Play Project’s vision to build one more for Southwest Washington. 🌿✨
