Meet Hailey Chui, one of our 2026 AVMA Education Grant recipients!✨

For Hailey, the journey to veterinary medicine began with something simple: a career aptitude test that sparked a passion for animal welfare and set her on a path she never expected.

Growing up in Hong Kong, veterinary medicine wasn’t a career she saw represented often, and it didn’t feel like a realistic opportunity. But today, Hailey is turning that dream into reality as a first-year veterinary student at the University of Minnesota. 🐾

As she pursues her goal of becoming a veterinarian, she’s also hoping to inspire others who may not see themselves in the profession yet – showing the next generation that a career in veterinary medicine is possible, no matter where you come from. 🌎🙌

Please join us in congratulating Hailey on this exciting achievement! We can’t wait to learn more about her journey and continue celebrating the incredible students we’ll be spotlighting on the road to AVMA. 💙✨

Kicking off our AVMA 2026 Education Grant recipient series with Christopher Buie, a fourth-year veterinary student at Mississippi State University whose path to veterinary medicine has been defined by discipline and passion.✨

At an early age, Christopher was searching for a profession that would allow him to combine the things he loved most… When he discovered veterinary medicine, everything clicked!

Today, he’s not only pursuing his dream of becoming a veterinarian, but also helping inspire the next generation. In his spare time, Christopher volunteers with elementary students, showing them that a career in veterinary medicine is attainable and encouraging them to dream big. 🐾

And when it comes to his future? His passion is clear: “For me, the lightbulb goes off when I’m in the operating room.”

With aspirations of becoming a small-animal surgeon, we can’t wait to see where his journey takes him!

Join us in congratulating Christopher and stay tuned to learn more about the incredible students we’ll be celebrating on the road to AVMA! 💙

DVMC Scholar Jakari Brown has been busy making an impact in every space she steps into 💙

From becoming the first student from Southern University and A&M College to receive the scholarship, to growing her leadership experience on campus and expanding her hands-on veterinary knowledge, Jakari continues to show what dedication and passion can accomplish.

She’s gained experience through programs like Vet on Wheels, providing free vaccination care to underserved communities, and Vet Explore, where she helps introduce students to the many career pathways within animal and veterinary medicine. Along the way, she’s also stepped into major leadership roles — including being elected Vice President of the Animal Science Pre-Vet Club and serving as Senior Class Cabinet Director of Public Relations for the Student Government Association.

And next up? An international study abroad internship in Belize focused on Food Animal, Marine, and Wildlife Medicine 🌎

We’re incredibly proud to support students like Jakari as they continue to grow as leaders, advocates, and future veterinary professionals! 🎉

Impact you can see. Support you can feel.

In our upcoming 2024 annual report, seven key impact areas rose to the top – each one representing how DVMC shows up for scholars and helps shape meaningful, sustainable careers in veterinary medicine:

✨ Navigation
✨ Mentorship
✨ Community
✨ Financial Aid
✨ Sponsorship + Advocacy
✨ Stability
✨ Opportunities

Each of these pillars represents more than a program or resource – they reflect the lived experience of scholars finding guidance, building confidence, and staying supported through every stage of their journey.

From first steps in the field to long-term career growth, these focus areas work together to create pathways that feel clearer, more accessible, and more achievable.

Because when support is intentional and consistent, it doesn’t just open doors – it helps people walk through them with confidence. 💙

While at VMX earlier this year, we connected with Dr. Tara Bidgood, DVMC Executive Board Member – and she shared her commitment to expanding access and enabling support for the future of veterinary medicine. 🐾

“It’s one thing to get accepted into school, but there’s a lot more support that’s needed once students are there.”

Through mentorship, educational grants, and scholarship support, DVMC is committed to helping students not only pursue veterinary medicine but succeed in it.

“Everyone needs to understand the impact this type of support can have – especially for students who may not have otherwise seen this path for themselves.”

We’re proud to support a future where more aspiring veterinarians and paraprofessionals have the resources, guidance, and community they need to thrive.
