O.H. Herman Alumni Association of Matagorda County, TX The purpose of this page is to connect the alumni of O.H. Herman High School in Van Vleck, Texas and During segregation, O.H. The O.H.

Herman High School was the only school for Black students in Van Vleck, Texas. Individuals from this and surrounding small, rural communities of Allenhurst, Ashwood, Live Oak, Cedar Lane, and Cedar Lake attended school here until integration pushed Black students across the tracks to Van Vleck High School. Herman Alumni Association is currently run by alumni who continue to demonstrate the importa

nce of education. The Association holds an annual fundraiser each year to provide scholarships to local high school graduates, as well as an annual banquet to celebrate scholarship recipients and fellowship with alumni, community members, and supporters. The association is named in honor of Octave Horace Herman, a local farmer and prominent figure in education during segregation.
