We want you to feel well equipped to take action so let’s unpack these three steps we mentioned in the picture together.
1. Learn the signs: What signs or red flags tell us is that something is wrong and that we need to stop and have a trauma informed conversation to find out what that might be. A couple signs: If someone seems fearful, anxious or hypervigilant that is a clear sign that something is wrong. Also, if someone with them is exerting an unusual level of control, talking over them or for them and/or making decisions for them that is another sign that something may be wrong. For more signs see the second picture, which is 10 Red Flags of Human Trafficking created by the American Hospital Association.
2. Share resources: Share social media posts from human trafficking nonprofits, survivors, and advocates. There are so many people speaking and working hard to bring important awareness about trafficking. Share their posts.
3. Support local survivor resources: There are many nonprofits like Journey Out working to resource survivors in the Los Angeles Metro. Pick one and support them with monetary donations, goods donations or you can even volunteer your time.
And always remember that while Human Trafficking Awareness Month is just one month a year resources for survivors and for those nonprofits supporting them are needed all year long.
