Have you spotted any California Least Terns this season? For these tiny terns, romance often involves fish. During courtship, a male may carry a fish in his bill during flight displays, then offer it to his mate once they’re back on the ground.

Enjoying the longer days or planning a weekend beach trip? 🌞 Don’t forget to with these adorable terns and our other beloved coastal birds. You can help keep them safe by giving them space so they can nest, rest, and raise their chicks.

We’re proud to be a Founding Partner of California Bird Atlas () — a new nonprofit launching the first-ever statewide effort to map California’s breeding birds.

Forty-four other U.S. states have completed Breeding Bird Atlases — globally recognized tools that guide conservation and strengthen biodiversity. California is one of only six states without a statewide Atlas. That’s about to change!
