2026 graduate, Courtney Hlas served as a Grandstand Usher at the Iowa State Fair last month.

The Grandstand Usher program gives FFA members the opportunity to represent FFA, agriculture, and Iowa while volunteering throughout the fair. Ushers help with events and educational booths, community outreach, livestock events, and work alongside Grandstand security to help keep guests safe.

Courtney’s favorite part of the experience has been the people and lifelong friendships she has made with FFA members from across the state.

She also served as a group leader this year, which helped her grow her leadership skills and gain experience that will benefit her in future leadership opportunities, resumes, and degree applications.

Courtney shared that all FFA members should jump at the opportunity to participate in this program as it’s an experience that provides leadership, service, and friendships that last well beyond the fair!

We are looking forward to Courtney coming back this spring to be a guest speaker at a monthly meeting to share her experiences and encourage involvement in the program.

On September 15th, 10 members took part in competitions and learning at the Tri-State Dairy Competitions hosted in Calmar, Iowa. During this event, members competed in both Dairy Products Classification and Dairy Cattle Evaluation. Members also had the opportunity to hear from different speakers in the dairy industry. This allowed our students to grow their knowledge of the dairy industry.

The Dairy Product team consisting of Nova Selck, Brianna Gahring, Payton Armstrong, and Rayna Wacha placed 3rd. Cam Schulte and Landon Urell also competed as individuals in this event. Nova placed 4th individually. The Dairy Cattle Evaluation team consisting of Jackson Schulte, Caleb Schulte, Charlie Schulte, and Izzy Lint placed 6th.

Last weekend, members joined Benton County Pioneer dealers and their customers to celebrate 100 years of Pioneer! 🌽

Members volunteered by setting up, serving food, bouncy house supervision, and helping with cleanup. They had a great time giving back, connecting with our local agricultural community, and celebrating this special milestone!
