The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reminds spearers that the deadline to apply for an Upriver Lakes tag or purchase a preference point is Aug. 1, 2026 for the upcoming 2027 sturgeon spearing season.

Good morning! Be on the lookout for men (and women) at work this morning, we’ll be working on the stretch of 45 from Scott St. to Silver St. once again as we participate in the Adopt a Highway Program!

It’s starting to be that time!

So, full disclosure.... This picture is from last year. But...
Water temperatures have increased significantly. Sturgeon are starting to be seen in the spawning areas and on the cams. No spawning activity has been observed as of yet, but there is a good chance, with the warmer weather projected this week, that the spawn may begin in some areas before the weekend. Stay tuned!!!

Don’t forget, our monthly meeting is tomorrow night, 7pm at Generation Lanes of Eldorado. Generations is on of our newest business partners and this will be our first meeting there, we are excited to be partnered with them!

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has published the 2026 Successful Spearers list. Please find it linked to this post.

Some highlights from the 2026 season included:

This was the shortest spearing season on the Upriver Lakes since 2015.
A total of 1,539 lake sturgeon were speared in 2026, with the adult female harvest caps triggered on both the Upriver Lakes and system-wide.
54 sturgeon weighing over 100 pounds were speared.
The largest sturgeon speared was a 148.1-pound female on the Upriver Lakes.

Thanks Stuart's Landscaping & Garden Center for the use of the wash rack. The steam cleaner sure got the club’s side by side cleaned up nicely for the off season.
