The Shorthorn Foundation works tirelessly with donors to create opportunities for the Shorthorn breed’s youth. We are honored to hear how our efforts have impacted Mackenlee Evans, a recipient of the 2026 Mike Dugdale Memorial Scholarship.

“My name is Mackenlee Evans, and I am from Idalou, Texas. I have been exhibiting Shorthorn cattle since I was 8 years old and have been heavily involved with both the Texas Shorthorn Association and the American Shorthorn Association throughout my junior career.
The Shorthorn Foundation provides countless opportunities for juniors within this incredible breed. I have been fortunate to receive a scholarship through the Foundation, which has helped me continue my education. I am currently a senior at West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas, and will graduate in December with a degree in Agricultural Business and Economics.
The Shorthorn Foundation offers a variety of scholarships to support junior members as they pursue higher education. This year, I was honored to receive the Mike Dugdale Memorial Scholarship. This generous support will help cover expenses during my final semester of college and allows me to focus on finishing my degree. I am incredibly grateful for the investment the Shorthorn Foundation continues to make in the future of its youth.”

Mackenlee, thank you for sharing your experience with the Shorthorn Foundation and our generous donors! we are proud to have played a part in your future and look forward to seeing what you accomplish!

✨ WHY WEDNESDAY ✨

This week, we're featuring retiring AJSA member Madison Ellis of Texas!

Madison encourages younger members to take every opportunity to learn, ask questions and stay consistent, even when things don't go your way.

"Growth doesn't happen overnight. Surround yourself with people who push you to improve, and always be willing to help others in return. Most importantly, enjoy the journey."

Madison appreciates Shorthorn cattle for their versatility, dependability and value in both show and production programs. She also values the breed's strong history and the supportive community.

Join us as we celebrate Madison and the many retiring AJSA members who have helped shape the future of the Shorthorn breed.

✨ WHY WEDNESDAY ✨

This week, we're featuring retiring NJSA member Caitlyn Rasor of Texas!

Caitlyn encourages younger members to stay curious, ask questions and learn from those around them.

"My advice to younger members would be to always ask questions, stay curious and learn from the older members around you. Most importantly, pursue what you are truly passionate about rather than simply doing what others expect of you."

Having grown up around Shorthorns, Caitlyn first loved the breed for its unique colors and characteristics. As she got older, she developed a deeper appreciation for the genetics, pedigrees and qualities that make Shorthorns special, along with the lasting friendships and connections she's built through the breed.

Join us as we celebrate Caitlyn and the many retiring AJSA members who have helped shape the future of the Shorthorn breed.
