People assume children will “get over” a death because they were young when it happened.

But grieving children don’t experience the loss only once. Their grief grows with them.

They understand it one way at 5, then completely differently at 10, 16 or 25. Every new stage brings new questions, new emotions and new ways of missing the person who should still be here.

As a parent, you don’t just help them survive the original loss. You help them understand it again and again as they grow.

What is something you wish more people understood about your grieving child? 🤍

Being featured in the Osprey Observer is an honor, but more importantly, it gives us another opportunity to explain why grief support matters.

Children do not simply “bounce back” after someone they love dies. Teens, young adults, and caregivers do not either. Grief changes families, and they deserve spaces where they can learn how to carry that loss without carrying it alone.

At Hand in Hand, families come together for a shared meal before children separate into age-appropriate groups using art, activities, storytelling, conversation, and peer connection. At the same time, caregivers receive support and tools for navigating their own grief while learning how to better support their children. There is no pressure to talk before someone is ready, and there is room for sadness, laughter, memories, frustration, and even joy to exist together.

That is why this works.

Grieving people need more than information. They need connection. They need consistency. They need to look across the room and realize, someone else understands this.

Our work now reaches families locally and beyond Florida, but the heart of the mission remains the same: creating community around children and families after loss.

Awareness matters because somewhere there is a grieving child, teenager, young adult, or caregiver who still does not know this kind of support exists.

**Your grief is welcome here. And you do not have to carry it alone.**

Today, on Bereaved Father’s Day, we honor the fathers carrying a loss that never stops mattering.

At Hand in Hand Brandon, we serve fathers who have lost children—from just days old to decades old. We also see how that loss ripples through the entire family, impacting siblings, spouses, and everyone who loved them.

While our groups were created with grieving children at the heart of our mission, we support the whole family—because grief is a family journey.

To every bereaved father: Your grief matters. Your child matters. Your story matters. We see you. 💙

2025 was an incredible year for our foundation—but 2026 is asking us to grow even bigger. 💙

Five new families in just three months. Expanded programs. New experiences and partnerships. And an Art Heals the Heart Gala growing from 75 seats to 150.

We are incredibly grateful—but growth requires more hands, more partners and more people willing to champion this mission.

If you can’t attend the gala, you can still be part of what happens next. Sponsor. Give. Volunteer. Share our story. Connect us with someone who believes grieving children and families deserve a community that shows up for them.

This news story is a beautiful reminder of where we’ve been.

Now, we’re building what comes next. Help us make 2026 even more impactful.

We heal in community. 💙

“I’d love to volunteer with grief support, but I’m not qualified.”

Can you listen?
Can you make a child feel welcome?
Can you sit beside someone having a hard day?
Can you laugh, play a game, serve a meal, or simply remind a child that they matter?

Then you may be more qualified than you think. 💙

At Hand in Hand Brandon , our volunteers don’t have to be grief experts. We provide the training, tools, activities, and support—you bring a caring heart and a willingness to show up.

Grief support isn’t about having all the right words. Sometimes it’s simply about creating a safe space where no words are required.
