It was an honor and a pleasure to present to the City of Valparaiso Human Relations Council this evening. The mission of the VIC aligns with the HRC in that we are strong advocates for equity, inclusion and cultural awareness. Valparaiso and the VIC share a goal where everyone is welcome, regardless of where you come from, what you believe or who you are.

Together we enhance our community by recognizing how diversity makes us stronger. When we break down barriers, we learn that we have a lot more in common than what divides us.

VIC founder Duane Davison and board member Kevin Hagen for Center Township Trustee presented the history, programs and goals of the VIC to the HRC at its regular meet on Thursday, August 27.

Thank you to everyone who joined the Valparaiso International Center on July 24 for our Fourth Friday Speaker Series featuring Meylan Li and her presentation on her native Costa Rica.

Meylan took us on a fascinating journey through the beauty, history, traditions, and incredible biodiversity of Costa Rica. From her hometown of Santa Cruz, Guanacaste—Costa Rica’s folkloric capital—to her experiences living in China and now making her home here in Valparaiso, Meylan shared a personal story that beautifully illustrated the connections that can be created when we take the time to learn about one another.
