Morrison Lodge
VALPARAISO - The Morison Lodge, located on Westview Avenue in "old downtown Valparaiso," is destined to go up in smoke Saturday.
It will be razed by controlled burning, giving the fire department in the area the opportunity for training of firemen: Valparaiso, Niceville, Fort Walton Beach firemen, also those from the fire science class at Okaloosa-Walton Junior College are taking part in the all-day burn-down of the old landmark.
For many years, the Morison Lodge was the home of the late Major James Ferris Morison, former mayor of Valparaiso.
Major Morison designed the first official seal for the city of Valparaiso Volunteer Fire Department and the first director of Civil Defense for the Twin Cities District.
He was editor and publisher of a newspaper, "The Sporran" for the Clan Morison Society, relaying news and information to its members all over the world, from his Morison Lodge office.
