The Lookouts were honored to be invited by the Orland Park Historical Society to play at Stellwagen Farm as part of Orland Park's Heritage Series. Our stalwart opponents - the Chicago Salmon, who are celebrating their 30th anniversary season! The pre-game featured a brass quintet, and the match had plenty of action to keep the many enthusiastic cranks entertained at a very unique field - bushes, trees, cranks, a fence, and horseless carriages- all of which were in play! In the end, the Lookouts prevailed 12-8. A hearty HUZZAH to young Sap and Sawdust on their first action for the Lookouts!

The Lookouts bested the Douglas Dutchers by a final score of 17-11 today at Valparaiso University, bringing our season record to 4-1. It was a beautiful day, we had a nice crowd, and the energy was high; you should have been there. Our next home game is August 15 at 1pm against the Elkhart Railroaders.

Saturday, the Valpo squad traveled to Lemont, IL, to face the McHenry Independants (spelled with an "a" as it was 150 yrs ago) and the Lemont Quarrymen. In the first match, the Lookouts paired strong defense with timely hitting and emerged a 9-1 victor against the Independants. After a brief meteorological discussion, the Indiana boys faced the Quarrymen, who had bested the Lookouts earlier in the year, 4-3. In another close game, the Lookouts led by 2 going into the final stanza before plating 4 aces to take the victory 11-5. It was a fine day of vintage base ball! Huzzah!

Saturday, 5/30, was a beautiful day for an ole timey vintage base ball game for the Valparaiso Lookouts, as they welcomed the fine gentlemen of the Blue Island Brewmasters to the Valpo squad's new field. The crimson-vested and capped Lookouts played stellar defense while they brought the big lumber to the match, bashing out 21 tallies to the Brewmasters' 5. The Lookouts hit the road in June but will return home in July.

Sunday, the Lookouts hosted the Lemont Quarrymen for their Opening Day at the new home field. It was either a great defensive match by both squads or a lack of offense, or a combination of both, but the final tally was a very low scoring 4-3 extra inning loss for the Valpo squad. Stay tuned for posting for the next game.
