Our hearts are heavy for the students, families, friends, and everyone impacted by the recent tragedy in our hometown.
No parent should have to receive that phone call. No student should have to live in fear. And no community should become numb to the pain of losing our youth to violence.
This is exactly why Michigan City Midnight Hoops was created. Our mission has always been bigger than basketball. The game simply gives us a way to connect, mentor, guide, and create a safe space for young people who need support, direction, and community.
We believe our youth deserve:
• Safe environments
• Positive mentors
• Opportunities to be heard
• Resources that create real change
• Hope for a better future
In moments like this, we’re reminded why this work matters so much. We want to continue finding new ways to reach the youth, open difficult conversations, provide resources, and become part of the solution surrounding gun violence and the challenges our young people face every day.
To the families affected, please know this community is grieving with you, praying for you, and standing beside you.
Please keep the students, staff, and families in your prayers during this heartbreaking time. And as a community, let’s continue showing up for our youth — not only after tragedy strikes, but every single day! 💙
Join the city as we come together in peace, unity, and support for our youth and community. Let’s stand together to spread awareness, stop the violence, and show our young people that they are loved, valued, and never alone. 💙
