In this Brew & Bravo spotlight, we sit down with Dave Welch, a former U.S. Marine and the founder of Cactus Rose Equine Foundation. After returning home from his service with Post-Traumatic Stress Injuries (PTSI), Dave found an unexpected path to healing—working with horses.

Through that experience, Dave discovered a powerful connection between horses and emotional healing. Today, he uses that same method to help other veterans who are facing similar struggles. Through the work at Cactus Rose Equine Foundation, Dave is creating a space where veterans can reconnect, rebuild, and begin the journey toward healing.

This conversation is about service, struggle, resilience, and the mission to help fellow veterans find hope again.

We had an incredible Healing Heroes Retreat this month with a wonderful group of veterans! Our veterans learned to be vulnerable with the horses and with each other. They learned communication and relationship building. They got to see the parallels between horse and human relationships and how we can grow and be better at both. Most importantly, the healing process began.

Next week we will be announcing dates for the remainder of the upcoming 2026 Healing Heroes Retreats!

I had the opportunity to go into the KWKT FOX 44 studio last night with Vince Erickson to share a little bit about what we do here at the Cactus Rose Ranch. We specifically talked about our Healing Heroes with Horses program that we do through the Cactus Rose Equine Foundation. This coming Monday morning we will have the privilege of hosting KWKT FOX 44's Vince Erickson at the Cactus Rose Ranch! Vince reached out to us last week and after hearing about our Healing Heroes with Horses program he couldn't wait to come out and see what we do for himself. He will be putting together a story on the Cactus Rose that will air sometime in November. We have several of our veterans coming out on Monday morning to meet Vince and share their experiences attending our Healing Heroes Veterans Retreats. We will be doing a demonstration of how we train and handle the horses. We're asking for prayer, that the Lord would go before us, guide us and bless this opportunity! Especially that the horses would cooperate and not decide to have a frolic in the pasture kind of day! 😜
