Independence Day is less than a month away. We hope you can join us on July 4 for Valley City’s America 250 Independence Day Celebration, brought to you by the Liverpool Township Historical Society, the Valley City Community Group, and the Ladies of the Grand Army of the Republic. A full day of festivities is planned!

The Liverpool Township Historical Society will host an open house at the Depot beginning at 9:30 AM. The Depot will remain open until the start of the Society’s annual Independence Day parade, which steps off from the Depot and travels to Mill Stream Park, where the Valley City Community Group will dedicate the new Frog Sculpture.

The festivities continue in the park with the Historical Society’s annual Classic and Antique Car show featuring an impressive display of vintage, antique, and custom vehicles.

The Ladies of the Grand Army of the Republic will also present a special patriotic ceremony at their National Headquarters Museum, commemorating 250 years of American independence and honoring the people, history, and ideals that have shaped our nation.

The grand finale of the day will be a spectacular fireworks display presented by the Valley City Community Group at dusk. We will light up the sky in honor of America 250 providing a fitting tribute to this historic day.

Please see the attached schedule for event times and additional details. We look forward to celebrating America 250 with you!

The Valley City Farmers Market is celebrating 20 years! The Farmers Market was started in 2007 by the late Tom Neff, whose vision was to create a place where local gardeners and farmers could sell their products and connect with the community. This season marks the market's 20th year of operation.

The market's original location was in the parking lot of the township community center, but it quickly became apparent that it needed greater visibility. Before the end of its first season, the market was relocated to the Depot, where it has remained ever since.

Following Tom Neff's passing in 2016, his son, Charlie Neff, (who provided us with these photos from earlier days) took over operation of the market and has continued his father's tradition with the help of a dedicated group of volunteers. Many of the market's vendors arrive early each week to help set up tents, tables, and chairs, and stay afterward to assist with cleanup and storage.

Over the years, the market has welcomed many vendors, including several who have participated for a decade or more. Shoppers can find a wide variety of local produce, honey, maple syrup, farm-fresh products, home-baked goods, artwork, crafts, handmade soaps, and much more. On-site knife sharpening is also available.

The market is open every Saturday from June through the end of September, from 9 a.m. to noon. Depending on the weather and product availability, the season is occasionally extended into October. Make plans to stop by this season and see what they have to offer. Support these local artisans and growers who add so much to our community!

OPENING DAY IS JUNE 13th. Thank you Charlie Neff for keeping this market going, and to all the great vendors and volunteers who show up every Saturday to keep the vision alive. You can follow their page here: Valley City Farmers Market

We’re looking for a few local ponds to help provide frogs for the annual Valley City Frog Jump!

If you have a pond stocked with bullfrogs and would be willing to allow our Frog Jump team to catch a few frogs shortly before the event, we’d love to hear from you. If desired, we will return the same number of frogs to your pond after the Frog Jump concludes.

To learn more or volunteer your pond, please contact Dan Brass of the Valley City Community Group at 216-530-4578. Dan will coordinate all arrangements, including the safe capture and return of the frogs. Thank you for helping keep this Valley City tradition hopping! 🐸
