I hauled Bud down to the Escondido high mini fair today along with another students steer, so the kids could get more experience and practice showing. While I was there I ran into Zack who showed Otis about 3 years ago, he is doing well working at an Auto body repair shop. When he showed his senior year he was about 5 10 today he stands 6 3. It was great to run into him and hear he was doing well.

Ashlynn and Missy’s April update:

This month Missy has been really good. I’m definitely noticing that she’s getting bigger. I’ve been walking her working on setting her up and she’s walking into it a lot better and not stretching out. I’ve been trying to get her ready for fair. I’ll be showing her on Wednesday and i’m really excited!

Ashlynn and Missy’s March update:

This month I had my first show with Missy. It was really last minute and I didn’t feel prepared at all, but i’m really happy with the outcome. My friend Sam was kind enough to help me out and clip her Saturday night. Sunday I got first call back in my showmanship class and placed 6th out of 15 in final drive. Then, Missy got 3rd out of 4 in breeding. I now know I need to work with her more on not stretching out her front feet. I’m getting really excited for fair.

Sam and Zach's March Update:

This month I took Zach to the SoCal Spring Fling Jackpot. On Friday we got 2nd in showmanship, Saturday he won his market class and we placed 4th in showmanship, and on Sunday he got 2nd in his market class and we got 5th in showmanship. Zach has gotten a lot more comfortable in the ring, but I’ve realized that I need to build up his stamina so that he doesn’t get tired so quickly. Zach has been eating a drinking good at home. I had a lot of fun at the show and can’t wait for our next one.

Wyatt and Alvin’s March update:

This month I went to a show in Ramona. I got good practice and placed 5th in Showmanship one of the days. I had a hard time on day 2 with Alvin being really difficult to handle, but I still kept at it. I have also been tying him up almost every day. He’s been getting better and even with his bad behavior at the show, I’ve been having a really good time with him.

Brianna and Buds March update:

This month has been really great with Bud. We worked a lot together, trying to get ready for the Spring Fling Jackpot. At the jackpot he behaved better than expected and I am very proud of him. It was a great learning experience and now know what I need to work on more with him. First day of jackpot we did not place but second day we got 2nd place in market. I’m very happy we got to attend the jackpot and I believe we will do really well at fair. Once Bud got home from the Jackpot he immediately went to play with his ball. Here are some pictures from the jackpot.

Well the Spring Fling Jackpot is a wrap, there were some smiles, a few tears, and a whole lot of be learning , experience and confidence building happening. We had all the kids there today showing and they all did really well. Out of both days they all did well in showmanship, calves placed well in there classes and the kids had fun, Thank you to everyone for helping and encouraging each other, that’s what it is all about.

I would like to take a second to say what an amazing group of kids and families we have again this year. Brianna and Bud are up at the Ramona Jackpot, Bud needed clipped so Sam jumped in and clipped him, the Powells said she can bring Bud over to their area during the day, she is stalling at the trailer and would be out there by herself. They are going to help her get him ready, they said they would be there for her. They Merriman’s have had a made a Curren’s Cows flag they are flying by their animals. All the calves look good and the kids have been working hard. I can’t thank all of them enough.

Brianna, is wanting to attend the Spring fling Jackpot in Ramona, I was going to haul Bud up there and back for her, the issue is the diesel is still down and I do not know if we will have it back on it's wheels by then, Is anyone in VC going to the show that might be able to haul her animal for her?

Wyatt and Alvin's February update:
In February I didn’t have any shows, so I spent time getting ready for the next show in Ramona. I tied him up a few days each week to help him get used to holding his head up. He has been getting better and is improving over time. He now walks much easier than before. He can still be a little stubborn and likes to do a headbutt thing but I keep trying.

Brianna and Buds February update:

This past month has been very funny with Bud as he has been continuing to act like a big puppy. He still loves playing with his ball and if I don’t fill it up with bermuda he will start playing around with the panels that make up his pen. He is currently eating 12 pounds a feeding and about 1 ½ flakes of bermuda. When I take him on walks he always gets scared of the chickens when we pass them but this month I got to see him just taking a nap with a chicken in his pen so I guess he got over that fear. Overall Bud is doing great.
