Not like Mare Island Shoreline Heritage Preserve Halloweens of the past. Boo!
Happy howl-o-ween to all of our Wildlands community this Halloween night from me here at Camp Myrna Cobb Mountain CA You just can’t imagine how different this night is not being at the Mare Island Shoreline Heritage Preserve after 15 years of entertaining halloweens, telling ghost stories, visiting our friends lying at rest in the Naval Cemetery and gathering around the campfire. It’s different too, without Nitro. This is the first Halloween without him in 12 years. I remember his seemingly favorite thing to do on Halloween was to crash through the fennel forest along the Trail and scare people to death. They were certain it was a large, wild animal they would scream and run, only to be greeted by Nite who would pop out on the Trail in front of them, panting and smiling. Off for more thrills. I had bought this cute little banner and vowed to hang it here at my retreat and share it as my homage to all our good times. But, we got here late after dark. This is the best I could do. A flash photo with it lying on my sleeping bag in my tent. Happiest Halloween, my sweet-sweets. Myrna Hayes
