Vallejo Project would like to recognize Destany Michael for the professionalism, dedication, and excellence she continues to demonstrate as a medical student at Toro University.

In 2021, both Destiny Michael and Louis Michael contracted with the Vallejo Project, where they distinguished themselves through their commitment to service, learning, and community engagement. It was through that experience that they connected with Gayle Cummings at Touro University, and the rest is history. Their success is a reflection of their hard work, perseverance, and character, and I am grateful to have played a small part in helping create opportunities that supported their journey.

Hi Adjoa,

I am emailing you with some information about my final work week with Vallejo Project (which was this past week). FYI, this will be a lengthy email.

I included my hours on our confer notes/timesheet for the past week. I worked a total of 4.5 hours and the tasks I completed are as follows:

Monday 2/15: Met with Adjoa (12-12:30pm, 0.50 hr), Met with wellness team (4:15-5:15pm 1 hr)

Thursday 2/18: Edited general community needs assessment, created brainstorming document for youth wellness community needs assessment, created template for youth wellness community needs assessment for wellness team to complete (1:15am-2:15am, 1 hr), meeting with Xochitl 4:45-5:15pm (.5 hr)

Friday 2/19: Meeting with Xochitl 5:30-6pm (.5 hr)

Sunday 2/21: Prepared and sent notes and documents for wellness meeting for Xochitl, emailed Adjoa with completed wellness tasks for my last week (9:45pm-10:45pm, 1 hr)

I wanted to include that there were a few tasks on our confer notes that I wasn't able to complete last week due to my 5 hour commitment. Additionally, most of the tasks assigned required me to do some outreach (calling and emailing folks) and I didn't think it would be the best use of my time since I would have to introduce myself to form these connections while I am in the process of stepping away from Vallejo Project. I feel that the outreach tasks would be better suited for Xochitl because she will be on the team from now on and she can be the point of contact rather than me. During our meetings this past week, Xochitl and I discussed the outreach tasks you assigned to me and she shared how she feels comfortable taking them on.

Lastly, if you take a look at the confer notes/timesheet, I highlighted the tasks I completed which were:
-Edited the general community needs assessment
-Started the youth community needs assessment
-Created a brainstorming document for the team to use to come up with questions for the youth community needs assessment. This document also includes some points on the importance of a community needs assessment and some questions I began brainstorming on my own. I hope the team finds this helpful in the next wellness meeting. All of the documents mentioned are already shared with the wellness team.

Since this past week was my last week with Vallejo Project, I will not be joining any meetings from now on. However, if you all have any specific questions for me or need help accessing documents, please feel free to email me at [email protected] as I will not be using my Vallejo Project email moving forward.

Thank you again for this opportunity to work with Vallejo Project. I enjoyed meeting the team and beginning to brainstorm ways to grow the wellness pillar. I hope that what I've contributed over the past few weeks has helped the pillar in some way. I am looking forward to seeing how the organization grows and supports the youth of Vallejo.

Wishing you all the best.
Destany

Unity Garden was honored to participate in the Vallejo Museum Garden Tour for the very first time this year!

For 26 years, this incredible fundraiser has connected our community through a shared appreciation of gardens, history, and the people who help make Vallejo beautiful. While the tour has been a beloved tradition for decades, this was Unity Garden’s first opportunity to be included, making it especially meaningful for our team.

It was inspiring to spend time with Master Gardeners, community volunteers, and fellow garden enthusiasts, visiting beautiful spaces, exchanging ideas, and celebrating the power of gardening to bring people together.

A special thank you to Ward Stewart and his outstanding team for the tremendous work they do organizing this event and fostering community connections throughout Vallejo.

Being part of this year’s tour was one of the highlights in Unity Garden’s history. Our next opportunity to participate won’t come around for another five years, so we are especially grateful for this experience—and we’re already looking forward to the next one!

Thank you to everyone who visited, volunteered, and supported the Vallejo Museum through this wonderful event. 🌿🌻 Vallejo Garden TourFoundations Vallejo Vallejo City Unified School DistrictVote4Gordon Vallejo City Council Member Dist6Vallejo Building Black Power The Vallejo Community Institute Vallejo Sister City Association

One of our alumni stopped by the farm today, and it was great to catch up! He’s working, doing well, and was amazed by all of the growth and changes happening at the Vallejo Project farm. Seeing former participants return and witness how the project continues to evolve reminds us why this work matters.

We’re proud of the young people who have moved forward into employment, education, and leadership, and we’re excited about what’s ahead.

If you haven’t seen it yet, check out Harold’s recent Vallejo Times-Herald article highlighting our new Rooted and Rising Summer Fellowships and the next chapter of opportunities for local youth.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support the Vallejo Project and our mission to help young people put down roots and rise.

Many of the candidate resources, biographies, and election materials included here were gathered from CalMatters and other publicly available voter information sources to help make the election process more accessible and informed.

In addition to election information, we’ve also included a brief leadership update from Vallejo Project so our community can stay connected to the work, growth, and future direction of the organization.

Thank you for taking the time to review these materials and for staying engaged in both our local democracy and community initiatives.

Vote like our democracy depends on it—because it does.
