After Open Vallejo revealed that Vallejo officers bent their badges to mark fatal shootings, Fairfield police pledged to investigate “immediately.” Instead, the agency took more than a year to investigate a former Vallejo officer in its ranks — and only began after he retired.

CITY OF VALLEJO STATEMENT REGARDING SETTLEMENT OF LITIGATION IN THE MONTERROSA MATTER

The City of Vallejo has reached and is finalizing a settlement in the federal case arising from the officer- involved shooting of Sean Monterrosa , which took place on June 2, 2020.

As we finalize the formal settlement, the City of Vallejo offers a sincere apology to the Monterrosa family and community for this tragic loss of life and recognizes the profound loss suffered by the family. The loss of a son, a brother, a loved one or a friend is a tragedy.

The City remains committed to its ongoing work with the community to strengthen trust, implement additional reforms, and adopt updated policies that best serve the people of Vallejo and the City. The City understands that building trust requires continued action to strengthen transparency, advance meaningful police reform, and to build a culture of public safety. The City of Vallejo remains committed to that work. We will continue to listen, to learn, and to move forward with intention.

It is the City’s sincere hope that this resolution, in some way, provides a measure of support to the Monterrosa family as they continue to carry forward.

We have always maintained that Mario was murdered, it was witnessed, it was protested, it was a truth that we were hated for exposing, we’ve always said you’ll see what they’ve done, they were given so many resources to hide this crime and terrorize us for exposing the lies. They were assisted on so many levels, murderers covering for murderers and climbing the ranks in the process. We’ve never been the type to give up and we appreciate those who are our same type of people and have never given up on finding the truth.

The recently recovered audiovisual records represent only a fraction of case files that Vallejo illegally purged in 2021.

Open Vallejo is on top of the action in Vallejo. The new news service has been investigating issues of corruption and misbehavior in Vallejo nearly two years.

One of the most recent stories has revealed the Vallejo Police Chief Shawny Williams is accused by former Lt. Herman Robinson, Vallejo’s longest-serving police officer, of making false statements under oath as Williams sought to fire him, records obtained by Open Vallejo show.

Questions about the reasons for Robinson’s firing and his effort to clear his name and be re-instated is just the latest scandal to rock the beleaguered Vallejo Police Department.

Today we will have Open Vallejo reporter, Laurence Du Sault, on El Show for the first time to explain this story and what it means for the Vallejo Police Department and Vallejo in general.

All of this and some very cool music. This is El Show de Andres Soto on KPFA 94.1 FM in Berkeley. Si Se Puede!!! All Power to the People!!!
