On July 20, 1969, the American flag was planted on the Moon, marking one of humanity's greatest achievements. Four days earlier, Apollo 11 had launched from Kennedy Space Center, carrying astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins on a mission that had seemed almost impossible less than a decade before.

After a successful journey, Armstrong and Aldrin guided the Lunar Module Eagle to a safe landing in the Sea of Tranquility, while Collins remained aboard the Command Module, orbiting the Moon above them.

Armstrong became the first person to step onto the lunar surface, followed shortly by Aldrin. Their moonwalk lasted about two and a half hours, during which they conducted scientific experiments, collected lunar samples, and planted the American flag on the Moon.

The Stars and Stripes planted where no flag had ever stood before—a lasting reminder of the courage, ingenuity, and determination that made the impossible possible.

Neil Armstrong was an American Legion Boys' Stater, completing the program in 1946 then serving in the U.S. Navy, before becoming an astronaut! 🇺🇸 NY American Legion Boys' State
