We envision that the patients we serve will gain strength and courage from our assistance and that they will be able to face the reality of cancer with grace and resiliency. Hair For a Cause was founded by Trisha Johnson (me) because I understand the difficulties of loosing your hair do to chemo and how self-confidence can be negatively impacted during the challenges involved in combating cancer.
As a former cancer patient, AML, I have experienced the ravages and hardships many woman face during chemo and radiation treatment. Hair For a Cause and Lush Heiress proudly supports woman in their battle with cancer. I resisted cutting my hair and shaving my head holding on to every patch and stray strand of hair on my head. I admired the women that wore their baldness like a badge of courage and honor. Unfortunately, I wasn't one of the brave ones. I wanted to look like me again, I wanted my hair back! When I found a program that donated wigs to cancer patience's, I was first in line. Though they didn't look natural, I was grateful. Let me be candid, there were a few drawbacks of the donated wigs; they were synthetic, the styles were dated, colors and choices were extremely limited and synthetic hair mats and just doesn't last long. I received my first human hair, lace front wigs as a gift from my mother. They looked natural when I wore them, you couldn't tell that I was wearing a wig at all!!! When I saw myself in the mirror I no longer saw a cancer patient. I saw me, smiling back. The wigs helped me feel less like a cancer patient and more like my healthy self. I felt beautiful, ready to beat cancer and take back my life. Hair For a Cause was created as a result of my experience with cancer. I want to share the positive impact the human hair wigs had for me with other who experience hair loss were the catalyst for the creation of Hair For a Cause.
