It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Judy “Meg” Parks, who passed away peacefully at her home in Bakersfield on May 16, 2026.

Meg was a cherished member of the Pyles family for many years, serving as one of our beloved camp cooks and touching the lives of countless campers, staff, volunteers, and alumni. Alongside her husband, Eugene "Stewie" Parks Jr, Meg became much more than a member of our kitchen team. To many generations of Pyles campers and staff, they were stand-in grandparents—providing encouragement, wisdom, laughter, and unconditional love.

Meg had a special gift for making people feel cared for. Whether through a warm meal after a long day, a listening ear, or a welcoming smile in the kitchen, she helped create the sense of family and belonging that defines the Pyles experience. Her kindness and generosity left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

We extend our deepest condolences to Stewie, their family, and all who loved Meg. She will be greatly missed, but her legacy of love, service, and compassion will continue to live on throughout the Pyles community.

Today, we are proud to announce Gabriel “Gus Gus” Muñoz as the new Camp Director of R.M. Pyles Boys Camp.

For some organizations, this would simply be a leadership hire.

For Pyles, this feels like coming home.

Gus Gus began his journey at Pyles as a camper, later returned as a staff member and now steps into leadership carrying forward the very values this program was built on: integrity, resilience, mentorship, and community.

Those who know Gus know his heart for this work and his deep belief in the life-changing impact of the Pyles experience. His leadership background spans youth development, program management, staff supervision, organizational operations— all grounded in a genuine passion for serving young people.

In his own words, Pyles is “where I began my journey of growth and leadership.”

As we continue expanding opportunities for youth — including new programming and the future growth of our organization — we are excited to welcome a leader who both understands our history and believes deeply in our future.

Please join us in welcoming Gus Gus into this new role.
