Patriots on Parade mural rededication was held July 1, 2026 during America’s 250th birthday celebration. Ribbon cutting included honored Grand Marshals Dwight and Karlene Keller.

This mural was initially located on the Vale Masonic Lodge building. When the Vale Masonic Lodge consolidated with the Ontario Masonic Lodge, the building was sold and the mural had to be moved.

When the mural was originally located on the corner of Main Street and B Street, the scene on the west side of Main Street still had the Rhinehart Stone House, the Opera House, the Vale Hotel and the old sandstone Malheur County Courthouse, which was torn down and replaced by the present Malheur County Courthouse.

The street scene shows one of Vale’s original firefighting rigs, followed by a stagecoach, followed by Vale’s first red fire engine. Vale’s first organized firefighting effort was simply a hook and ladder company. All of what is pictured was reproduced from actual photographs of past Vale Fourth of July parades. Several of our community residents including Jim Silence (seated on the stagecoach), Ted Hesse and Rosemary Johnson Braniff are pictured in the mural because of their contributions to the Vale community.

Address: A Street (Across from Lewin Park)

Artist: Colleen Mitchell (Veyna) Hopkins (painted in 2008)

Civic organizations participating included Vale Lions, Vale Chamber of Commerce, and Vale Mural Society.
