Legacy Behavioral Health Our mission is to empower hope and wellness through exceptional, personalized care.

Legacy Behavioral Health is a public nonprofit organization operated by the South Georgia Community Service Board. Community Service Boards are legal entities created by House Bill 100 in July, 1994, to govern Public Mental Health, Mental Retardation, and Substance Abuse Services. These services were previously provided by the Department of Human Resources, Division of Mental Health. Public funding for the Community Service Boards is provided by the state through a system of regional funding and planning authorities. These funding authorities are called Regional Boards and the public funding for Legacy Behavioral Health is through a contractual relationship with the Region 4 Regional Board. Legacy is licensed by the State of Georgia and complies with the state standards.

💙 Youth Voices Making a Difference in Our Community!
Legacy Behavioral Health’s Youth Prevention Initiative Youth Leadership Council recently presented to the Valdosta City Council about the importance of proper v**e disposal. These ambitious students educated community leaders about the environmental and safety dangers of sending v**es to landfills and emphasized the need for a collaborative effort to develop a safe, sustainable disposal solution. 🌱♻️

We are incredibly proud of these young leaders for using their voices to advocate for positive change and a healthier community!

Proud to Partner with Moody Air Force Base! ✈️
Legacy Behavioral Health is proud to partner with Moody Air Force Base to provide meaningful mental health education and support to the leaders who serve our community.
Our clinician, Leslie Ruff, recently led a wonderful group of leaders through an engaging education session covering PTSD, Trauma, Vicarious Trauma, Coping Skills, and Conflict Resolution. 🧠💙
We are grateful for the openness, participation, and thoughtful conversations from this incredible group. Creating spaces where leaders can learn, connect, and strengthen their mental health knowledge is an important part of building healthier, more resilient communities.
We look forward to continuing this partnership and providing more education sessions and opportunities to support the Moody AFB community!

Legacy Behavioral Health was honored to be part of the Azalea Recovery Hope Event, connecting with community members and providing valuable mental health resources and substance use disorder recovery resources.
We had the opportunity to hear powerful and compelling testimonies that reminded us of the strength, courage, and resilience found throughout the recovery journey. We also enjoyed meaningful conversations with attendees and shared information about the services and support available through Legacy.
Events like this create space for connection, reduce stigma, and remind individuals and families that help, hope, and support are available. 💙
Thank you to everyone who made this meaningful event possible and to all who shared their stories and welcomed us into the conversation. We are proud to continue building healthier communities and connecting people to the resources they need.

Literacy, Connection & Mental Wellness! 💚📚

Legacy Behavioral Health was honored to spend time with a sweet class of first graders at
Lanier County Elementary School, where we had the joy of volunteering and reading with
these amazing young learners!

Reading with children is about so much more than building literacy skills—it also helps foster
connection, imagination, emotional expression, confidence, and healthy coping skills, all
of which play an important role in mental health and well-being.

We were also excited to participate in the school’s Literacy Fair that evening! We loved
connecting with students and families while sharing a few tools for healthy stress management,
including fidget toys and coloring pages featuring kid-friendly stress-management tips.

At Legacy Behavioral Health, we believe that supporting the whole child means supporting their
mind, emotions, relationships, and ability to learn and grow. 💚
Thank you to Lanier County Elementary School for inviting us to be part of such a wonderful
day! We are grateful for opportunities to connect with our community and help our children read,

💜 Building a QPR Campus at Valdosta State University! 💜

Legacy Behavioral Health was proud to train and certify members of the Valdosta State University Graduate Association of Social Work in QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) Su***de Prevention!

We are incredibly grateful for our partnership with Valdosta State University and excited about the opportunity to continue expanding QPR across campus. Our goal is to help create a QPR campus where students, faculty, and staff feel prepared and empowered to recognize the warning signs of su***de, have a conversation, and connect someone to help.

This group was absolutely fantastic! Their enthusiasm, thoughtful questions, and commitment to supporting the wellbeing of others made the training such a pleasure. 💜
And who knows…we may even see some of these incredible future social workers join the Legacy Behavioral Health team after graduation!
