The Vacaville Police Officers’ Association is proud to serve the citizens of Vacaville each and every day. Our organization prides itself on delivering a high level of customer service; a service we feel is not only a privilege but an expectation by our community.
For the past several years, Vacaville has faced a shortage of Police Officers and Dispatchers. Despite these shortages, our association has maintained to provide high-level of service to the Vacaville community and held high standards for our members, understanding the importance of having respectful, courageous and overall well-rounded dispatchers and officers.
Recently, the decision was made to shutter one of our specialty units whose responsibilities included addressing quality of life issues, and diligently working to provide housing assistance to the homeless in our city. This decision wasn’t made lightly; however, staffing shortages were resulting in high overtime costs associated with ensuring enough officers were available for emergency response throughout the day.
In addition to this, the costs of our equipment - the equipment we need for the safety of the public and our members and to address the many unknowns we are called to, continues to rise. The cost of radios, vehicle safety equipment, and police vehicles - have significantly increased. New state laws require additional equipment, additional training and additional considerations - but don’t provide the funding to help meet these requirements.
We understand the apprehension toward increasing taxes, and trust us when we say many of our members feel the same. However, we also understand the significant increase in costs to providing necessary services to our community. These costs keep Vacaville safe and maintain the level of service that has kept many of you - and many of us, living here in our city.
The Vacaville Police Officers’ Association supports Measure V so that Vacaville has the resources it needs to have enough Officers present, to keep emergency-response times low, and keep our community safe. We believe Measure V will ensure emergency-services are prepared and ready when you need us.
