Here is a classroom fact for this week: Solano County has more than 700 farms, and in 2025 they produced a record $476 million in crops and livestock.

The biggest one was almonds at $108 million, the first crop in county history to pass $100 million. Processing tomatoes, w**e grapes, nursery plants and walnuts round out the top of the list. Every one of them grows within a short drive of a Solano classroom.

Teachers, that is a ready-made warm-up for math, geography or science. The California Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom has free lessons for every grade at learnaboutag.org, and you do not have to be an ag teacher to use them.

Solano County teachers, there is one more California Ag in the Classroom regional conference this fall, and we would like to help you get there.

The Central Region conference is Saturday, September 26 in Stanislaus County. One day, hands-on workshops, a local farm field trip, and classroom-ready resources you can use the following Monday. Registration is $100, and it is built for any grade and any subject, not just ag teachers.

The Solano County Farm Bureau Ag Education Foundation sponsors Solano County teachers to attend the California Ag in the Classroom conference.
