🐰 Breakfast with the Bunny: recap time! πŸ₯ž

A little throwback to earlier this month when the Kiwanis Club of Vacaville had the privilege of teaming up with the Vacaville Parks and Recreation for their annual Breakfast with the Bunny event. This marked our third year being part of this wonderful community tradition, and it just keeps getting better!

Our team was up before the sun, firing up the griddles at 6:00 AM to serve the community fluffy pancakes, sausage, and potatoes, while the wonderful Parks and Rec crew rounded out the plate with scrambled eggs. Together, we sent families home with full bellies and happy memories.

We are especially grateful to our amazing Key Clubbers who volunteered their Saturday morning to help with the pancake-making process, assist with activities, and lend a hand wherever it was needed around the kitchen. Their energy and willingness to serve made the entire event run smoothly, and watching these young leaders in action was truly inspiring.

And a special shoutout to our very own Kiwanian who hopped into the bunny suit to greet families and pose for photos with the kids. 🐰

A heartfelt thank you to the City of Vacaville Parks and Recreation Department for welcoming us back for a third year, and to every family who came out to share the morning with us. Events like these are exactly what the Kiwanis spirit is all about: showing up for our community, supporting our youth, and making memories together. πŸ’›

From Corderos Park to Centennial Park, and so many spaces in between, one person has quietly helped shape the parks and open spaces our community enjoys every day.

Join the Kiwanis Club of Vacaville for our next in-person general meeting featuring Hew Hesterman, Senior Park Planner for the City of Vacaville Government .

Presentation Topic: "Master Planning of Parks"

Hew has served the City of Vacaville since August 2006, following prior roles with Greater Vallejo Recreation District, the City of Sacramento, and the City of Dixon. A UC Davis graduate with a degree in Design, Hew has spent nearly two decades bringing creativity and vision to Vacaville's parks system. His fingerprints can be seen on Great Wonders, Corderos Park, Dreamers Park, Nashe Mesto Park, Owl Park, Magnolia Park, the Centennial and Lagoon Valley dog parks, the naming of 32 Lagoon Valley trails, the Annual Coastal Clean-up, and countless Scout projects. In 2024, he secured an innovative contract that will save the City millions toward the Centennial Park Bike Park.

After 19 Β½ years of dedicated service, Hew plans to retire in 2026, making this a wonderful opportunity to hear directly from someone whose passion, knowledge, and commitment have left a lasting legacy on our community.

Hew will walk us through the 2013 Recreation Needs Assessment, the 2015 General Plan Update (including how Vacaville provides park services), the 2021 Parks & Recreation Master Plan, and the 2023 Centennial Park Master Plan. He'll also share updates on the implementation of the Centennial Park Master Plan and how the first phase of construction, the bike park, is being funded.

Our booth stayed busy all night as lots of kids stopped by to decorate Christmas ornaments. Seeing their creativity, excitement, and proud smiles made the evening especially memorable and reminded us why events like this mean so much to our club. πŸŽ¨πŸŽ„

Thank you to everyone who came out to visit our table, spend time with us, and help make the night so special. We are grateful for the continued support from our community and for every chance to serve Vacaville in meaningful ways. πŸ’™
