this Uh-1h was purchased in 1968 by the department of the army, 17146 spent a few months in the states before being shipped to thailand and then to vietnam just 10 months after being purchased, this aircraft spent the majority of its time in country as a member of the 281st Attack Helicopter Company (AHC)
an interesting sidenote is that the 281st AHC is the only avaition unit that was attached
to the 5th Special forces group during project delta and supported RECONDO training as well. after spending 3 years and 8 months out of the contenental united states it was returned to St.louis mo for processing and then sent to the red river army depot for maint. Rucker, AL for a year before being returned to NAS for further repair. the aircraft returned to Ft.rucker for another 2 years before being retired from active duty military.
17146 was transferred to the 321st air ambulance det. in 1984 this aircraft was received at the Los Alamitos Armed services reserve center in los aliamitos,ca
the last military entry was march of 1995 when it was transferred from the state of california reserves to the solano community college's airframe and powerplant course for a training aid.
