Mami was founded in 1998 as a not-for-profit patient advocacy agency, providing limited-English-proficient (LEP) patients better access to care. Today, with offices in Albany, Syracuse, and Utica, MAMI employs over 150 trained interpreters who work with hospitals, medical centers, and other healthcare, social services, and legal institutions along the thruway corridor of New York State.

Since 1998 MAMI (The Multicultural Association of Medical Interpreters) has been providing language and cultural access so speakers of limited English can fully participate in the community. All people’s have the need to be able to communicate with their medical professionals, Legal experts and social settings in general. MAMI prides itself on providing the local melting pot communities of Utica and Syracuse with 21 years of this vital service. MAMI has recently undergone a massive restructuring including a change in Executive Management. We are excited to be rolling out new plan’s for the future and continuing to assist our communities.

It's amazing the number of languages our refugees and immigrants speak in Central New York ... and because of this, MAMI is always looking for more bilingual speakers who speak a variety of languages and dialects. We presently need the following in the Utica, NY area: Kinyarwanda, Karenni, Masalit, and Vietnamese. If you speak any of these languages and if you also speak English, we would love to interview you to determine if you would make a good interpreter.
