Conversations That Open Doors gives people a place to practice important conversations before they happen.

A place to try out words.
Ask questions.
Build skills.
Find your voice.

And it's working.

114 people experiencing homelessness have participated in 2026.
100% have reported greater confidence.

THE STAKES ARE HIGH. ⚠️

For many of us, calling a landlord about an apartment might feel a bit uncomfortable.

When you're experiencing homelessness, that conversation can feel like everything is riding on it. 🏠

What do I say?
What will they ask?
How do I explain my situation?
How do I advocate for myself?
What happens if they say no?

The same is true when you're trying to explain what you need to a service provider, talk to an employer, navigate benefits, or ask for help.

The conversation may be ordinary. But when you're experiencing homelessness, the stakes can be anything but ordinary.

That's why Build For Good created Conversations That Open Doors.

Our workshops give people a supportive place to practice difficult conversations before they happen, build practical skills, and strengthen the confidence to speak up for themselves.

Communities that make progress reducing homelessness don't simply move people from one place to another.

They build systems that work together.

They:

☑ Know who needs help.
☑Listen to people with lived experience.
☑Align housing and supportive resources.
☑ Remove barriers that stand between people and housing.
☑Help people move into homes.
☑ Support people in staying housed.
☑Measure what's working and adjust when it isn't.

None of this happens through one program or one organization.

It takes a community working toward the same goal to make homelessness less common.

That's a community worth building. 🏘

Housing instability can build long before someone loses their home.

For every $100 increase in median rent, homelessness increases by about 9%.

Housing costs matter.

And when people lose housing, homeless service providers are often there to help.

They help people find housing.

Connect to services.

Navigate barriers.

And stabilize once they're home.

That work matters.

But if we want to reduce homelessness, we also have to look at what happens before someone loses their home.

We need to make housing more attainable, help people stay housed when challenges arise, and make sure help is there when people need it.

That's where Build For Good comes in. We bring people together, listen to lived experience, and help our community connect the dots between housing, prevention, and solutions that work.

Reducing homelessness takes a community working together to address both the causes and the consequences of homelessness.
