IAFP Latino 2026 will be held Sept. 28-29 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Organized by IAFP's Affiliate, the Argentine Food Safety Commission, the event is held every two years by scientific associations and societies from Latin American countries affiliated with IAFP.

Researchers, students, industry representatives and government officials come together to discuss food safety and quality — staying current on the science, presenting research results, exploring innovative solutions for the sector and building new opportunities for cooperation and networking.

Sara Engelhart has joined IAFP as its Foundation Director, bringing more than 15 years of experience in strategic communications, nonprofit storytelling, community engagement and relationship building.

Before officially joining the team, Sara worked closely with the Association through its marketing agency, Trilix, where she supported IAFP communications and developed a strong understanding of the Association, its members and its mission. Her background also includes fundraising and donor communications, helping organizations connect supporters with the impact their investment makes possible.

She looks forward to building on her existing relationships within IAFP, forming new connections across the Association and supporting the Foundation's continued growth and impact on the future of food safety.

Nominations are open for candidates from the industry sector to serve as IAFP secretary for 2027–28. Self-nominations are encouraged.

The secretary-elect is determined by majority vote in February 2027. The elected secretary serves on the executive board for five years, succeeding to president and then past president.

To nominate, forward a letter of nomination and biographical sketch to Lisa Garcia, IAFP executive director, at [email protected]. The deadline is Tuesday, October 6.

Planning is underway for IAFP 2027, July 18-21, in Kansas City, Missouri, and submissions are now open!

The deadline to submit proposals is Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2026, and no late submissions will be accepted. Proposals must be submitted through the online submission program on the IAFP website. Submissions are also being accepted for the IAFP 2027 Pre-Meeting Workshops, taking place July 16-17 in Kansas City, with the same Sept. 29 deadline.

Dough-wrapped meat products, such as meat pies, can create consumer confusion regarding safe preparation methods, potentially increasing the likelihood of foodborne illness.

The authors of "Inside the Pies: Assessing Consumer Familiarity with Meat Pies and Conducting a Market Basket Survey for Pathogen Presence" surveyed 658 consumers to evaluate overall familiarity with meat pies, awareness of the ready-to-eat and not-ready-to-eat status of such products, and use of a food thermometer to determine doneness.
