November is prematurity awareness month! Keaton’s Kubby is a place where family members at Carle, who have their premature babies staying in the NICU can go to and take whatever they may need for and during their stay in the NICU💜

Here are just a few facts related to prematurity

- Premature birth is defined as a birth that occurs before 37 weeks of gestation.
- It is the second leading cause of infant death worldwide.
- In the United States, about 1 in 10 babies are born prematurely.
- Factors that increase the risk of premature birth include smoking, alcohol use, multiple pregnancies, and certain medical conditions

Saturday, October 11th, on what would have been Keaton’s 1st birthday, our family joined us in taking a drive down to Carle to set up Keaton’s
Kubby in honor of our baby girl.
We were lucky to have ours and Keaton’s favorite nurse there with us to set everything up and get to meet the rest of our family!
We can’t thank you all enough for every donation you have sent our way for Keaton’s Kubby, we just know that this little gesture will do and mean so much for our NICU family!💗

This past year has been the most difficult journey of our lives following the heartbreaking loss of our sweet Keaton Kay. As we reflect on the past year, we want to take a moment to thank every single one of you. Your kind words, thoughtful messages, warm meals, generous contributions toward Keaton’s medical bills, and unwavering support have carried us through the darkest days.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. We truly couldn’t have made it through without the love and support of our family and friends. Every single act of kindness — no matter how big or small — has meant more to us than words can express.
Since losing Keaton, Carter and I have wanted to find a way to honor her memory in a meaningful and lasting way. We want the world to know who our baby girl was — because she was everything good in both of us, and we want her light to continue shining for years to come.
With the help of some incredible people in our lives — especially the amazing staff at Carle NICU — we’re so honored and excited to introduce you to Keaton’s Kubby.
Keaton’s Kubby will be a special cart stationed at Carle NICU, thoughtfully stocked with items to help support current NICU families during their stay. Inspired by what brought us comfort during our time there with Keaton, the Kubby will include things like:
* Children’s books and “Baby’s First Bibles” (just like Keaton had)
* Bracelets and small keepsakes
* Stuffed animals and toys
* Coloring books and supplies for both kids and adults
* Snacks and drinks — especially for those busy, sleep-deprived NICU parents who often forget to care for themselves while caring for their little miracles
Our hope is that Keaton’s Kubby brings a sense of comfort, normalcy, and support to families facing the same difficult road we once walked.
Carter and I will personally stock the Kubby every other week, with the help of one of Keaton’s wonderful NICU nurses who will help maintain it in between visits.
If you’d like to contribute to Keaton’s Kubby, we’ve created an Amazon Wish List filled with items that will help us keep the cart fully stocked. When placing an order, we kindly ask that you send it as a gift and include your name and address in the note so we can personally thank you for your generosity and for helping us honor our baby girl in such a meaningful way.
We’re so grateful to finally share this project with all of you and we look forward to updating you on the impact Keaton’s Kubby will have on families at Carle NICU.
