Spend an evening with a horror classic and one of Illinois’ acclaimed storytellers.

On Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. CT, experience a screening of "Night of the Living Dead" (1968), followed by an on-stage conversation with Pulitzer Prize-winning Illinois alum Daniel Kraus, MS ’06 IS, and "Illinois Alumni" magazine Editor-in-Chief Ryan A. Ross, ’08 LAS, MSLIS '10.

Together, they’ll explore the film’s lasting cultural impact and Kraus’ new book, "Partially Devoured: How Night of the Living Dead Saved My Life and Changed the World." A book signing will follow the conversation.

On this date in 1973, had quite the headline: “Beer allowed in dorms.”

The policy would allow students 19 and older to have beer and wine in private living areas beginning Oct. 1, when a new Illinois law took effect. That era was relatively short-lived: in 1980, Illinois raised the drinking age back to 21.

What a time to be alive. 📰

A legacy rooted in Illinois agriculture will help preserve a piece of campus history for generations. 🌾

University of Illinois graduate Leah Jane Wightman ’77 left her $10 million estate to name, restore and sustain the university’s three historic round barns.

Growing up on a farm near Arcola, Illinois, Wightman developed a lifelong appreciation for barns and the agricultural heritage they represent. Her remarkable gift ensures these campus landmarks can continue serving the university while preserving their history.
