The Urbana American Legion is having their first BREAKFAST of the season this Saturday, December 6th. Serving from 7:30-10:00 am. Free will donation. Hope to see your smiling face!!

I thought our community would like to know a little bit about our local American Legion Auxiliary activities we’ve done since last March 2024

We have supported our Legion in helping put on the community fish fries Jan-Apr. We assisted cooking and serving food in the lunch stand at Geiger’s sales.

In April we travel to the Iowa Veterans Home, (IVH), in Marshalltown to play Bingo with the Lady residents. We provide the winning quarters, which are 50 cents per game winnings!!! They can use those quarters to purchase popcorn, ice cream and other items in the little store. We also provide dessert to eat with their beverages after the games

We assist the legion in putting out and taking down all the little and big Flags for Memorial Day. Usually, one can find us passing out our Poppies the the weekend before Memorial Day.

For several years we have hosted a Free Will Donation Breakfast on the first Saturday of the month. (This goes from January thru May)

Several people have asked over the years what do we do with the money we raise? We support our local community and Veterans by:

Popcorn for IVH : $40
Tables and chairs for our legion hall $3,000
Wheelchair lift for the barber/beauty shop and pool tables for Iowa veterans home $2,840
Pie sales in blairstown $120
Valentine’s Day party for our veterans $150
We pay the auxiliary membership for our Senior members $120
Donated to the Urbana library for their summer reading program $200
Donated to the local Cub scouts $200
Donated 4 books to the Urbana Library $200
Donated to the CPU school lunch fund $2,000

These are just some of the initiatives we have undertaken this past year, providing insight into how your contributions support our various activities

Memorial Day 2025

Our Legion will be doing honors tomorrow for Memorial Day starting at 0830 at St. Mary’s Catholic cemetery. From there we go to the river bridge, Cox and Kisling cemeteries. At 10 am we’ll be at the New Urbana Cemetery followed by the Old cemetery. Our last honors will be at the Veterans Memorial Park by City Hall. There will be a speaker at St. Mary’s and the New Urbana cemetery.

A big Thank You for all of you who came out to see our Auxiliary passing out the Poppies in memory of our fallen military this past Friday at Dollar General and on Saturday at Jams. Your support of our veterans means a lot. Thank you❤️
