The MISSION of Salt & Light is to share God's love by fighting poverty with opportunities that empower people for lasting change. The VISION of Salt & Light is to see each person growing in their God-given potential. First and foremost, we are a ministry committed to sharing God’s love. We fight poverty each and every day. Not just material poverty, but also poverty of spirit and community. We rec

ognize that each of us is broken and in need of healing. We fight all levels of poverty with opportunities that empower people. We believe God has granted each person gifts and abilities that are valuable to our community. We long to see lasting change in each person who walks through our doors. This could be a newfound sense of worth, a full-time job that provides financially, an expanded sense of compassion for mankind, or a renewed identity in Christ.

Thank you to Emily, a Family Life Educator, from the U of I Extension for coming to lead us through the class "Being Mindful in a Busy World."

We were able to learn about the benefits of mindfulness, how to practice it, and were even able to complete a few mindfulness exercises. Adding these small daily practices into our routine can improve our overall health.

We enjoyed time to be creative with Kalyn at our Art Class. We used collage and recycled materials to make magnets. Taking time to create is such a good stress reliever and when you do it in a class, a great way to get to know others. Thanks to Kalyn for sharing her time and gifts with us and thanks to everyone who joined in for the fun!

Congrats to our Work Life participants who have been working towards being ready for a Mock Interview and completed them with much success and opportunity to keep learning and growing. We are so proud of the work they have put in!

And thank you to all of our professional interviewers - Ulyssia Dennis, Laura Czys and Jason Knight - for supporting the participants and our program. We could not do this without the support from individuals and employment partners in the community.
